Eastern Isles (Paiwanese: Lǜ lán dǎng), is a province of Slokais Islands. The province was established in 1973 and is the newest province in Slokais and consists of 5 major islands and almost 60 smaller ones. The islands are divided into two areas the Saint's Isles and Saroah Isles the two are separated by hundreds of miles of water making it technically the largest including water area, although one of the smallest by land area.

History[edit | edit source]

The Eastern Isles are believed to have been formed around 5 million years ago and consist of two separate chains of islands with the Saroah Isles being smaller and less volcanically active. The islands were settled around 20,000 to 10,000 years ago by sea-faring groups using canoes and similar craft. Eventually, each major island developed its own tribal group, culturally and linguistically distinct from each other. The Paiwanese emerged as the largest ethnic group on the island of Lunyuan with a system of local tribes and agricultural systems built around yam and fruit production. The calendar system was derived from a harvesting system leading to the history of the group hard to define by modern anthropology. However per oral tradition, Hua-Qisa was founded around the year 950. Just a few decades later, a Minjian fleet seeking to reach Neria (which was only considered mystical) arrived. Yet, the Paiwanese sea-faring charts didn't show any land beyond leading to the island chain gaining a reputation as the end of the world. This reputation led to limited contact for centuries with occasional ships trading in Hua-Qisa. In the 1600s, seeking to meet God at the edge of the world a group of Revivalists invaded the Paiwanese Kingdom. After an initial rebuke, the San Fernando Colony aligned themselves with the Revivalist faction and invaded in 1658. In the ensuring peace treaty, the islands where placed under the San Valentino District with local authority being maintained yet under a colonial governor.

In 1810s, the island chain was sold to Robert Green, a Sanctarian private investor who brought in laborers to harvest sugarcane on an island which took his name. For the next several decades, the territory existed as personal private colony of the Green Family with limited local autonomy. Locals where forced to reject there traditional religion in favor of Revivalism. Eventually, a faction of the Green's employees and indigenous people rose up in 1895 after decades of subjugation and control by a small faction. The Republican of the Eastern Isles was founded with a parliamentary system, currency and a navy. When news reached New Liverpool in 1896, members of the Green Family lobbied for a invasion due to territory being rightfully Slokasian due the total transfer of "all the territories of the San Fernando Dominion to the Republic of Slokais Islands". The next year, a Slokasian naval force couped the Eastern Isles government and incorporated the territory.
