The Department of Internal Security (DIS) is the largest Maximusian federal intelligence service. Since 1963, DIS has been responsible for the majority of domestic counterterrorism and counterintelligence operations conducted by by the Maximusian government. Over the last six decades, DIS has generated considerable controversy. The department is considered by legal watchdogs to be among the nation's least transparent organizations, and has been accused of carrying out a number of illegal covert operations.
History[edit | edit source]
Founded in 1963 while the nation was in the midst of the Great War, the Department of Internal Security was spun off from the nation's then-primary federal-level intelligence-gathering service, the Army Special Operations Intelligence Command, to separate counterintelligence and clandestine operations from the military chain of command and to expand the service's jurisdiction to domestic intelligence gathering.
