Ambonar Connexional University is a private university in Slokais Islands. Founded in 1714, by the Ambonar Church of God as The Holy College of Ambonar to promote religious education in the Ambonar Kingdom. Since then ACU as it's more commonly referred to has expanded to become the most prominent university in Ambonar and a key center of research in Slokais. Located in Xulin, ACU is known for it's programs in business, education and nursing.
History[edit | edit source]
Education was a key tenant of Sri Dontak's leadership of the Ambonar Kingdom and thus believed the creation of higher education would create a generation of scholars educated in Revivalist teachings. In 1710, a plot of land in Xulin was set aside with construction starting soon after. In 1714, The Holy College of Ambonar opened its doors with 1,500 students studying several different disciplines. Students studied a discipline such as agriculture or medicine with a focus on incorporating Revivalist values into their work. The Holy College remained in this model until 1825, when it became Ambonar Connexional University. This was due to the separation of church and state
Campus[edit | edit source]
Ambonar Connexional University's main campus is located in Xulin, Ambonar. Located at its center is Old Campus, which contains the Holy Collage of Ambonar as well as the Sri Dontak College of the Trades. Old Campus has the oldest buildings being built of ornate stone as well as the Central Temple which serves as a religious event space and the center of weekly mandatory services. Beyond that, campus can be divided into East and West Campus. East Campus is home to the John Rahman Dining Hall as well as the College of Medicine and much of the housing on campus. West Campus is home to much of the academic colleges as well as Daniel Simanjorang Stadium and the Peter Rizal Gymnasium.
Other Campuses[edit | edit source]
ACU has a secondary campus in Agalong which is home to the College of Oceanic Sciences. While much smaller is located directly along the ocean and contains a harbor and training areas for ACU's sailing program. ACU also has online learning resource centers across Slokais Islands which hold graduations and provide technical support to the university's large online degree program.
Academics[edit | edit source]
ACU contains 12 colleges with 380 total programs with an additional 105 being offered online. ACU is accredited through the Alliance of Slokasian Colleges and Universities (ASCU), a distinction only gained in 1974. Before than ACU was a direct body of the Ambonar Church of God and was a member of the Alliance of Revivalist Universities. The university has been criticized in the past for its curriculum which rejects commonly held scientific and educational standards in favor of the "ACU Way". In terms of program rankings, the Sri Dontak College of Trades is ranked as the 10th best business program in Slokais, while the Holy College of Ambonar is considered one of the "divine 5" divinity programs. Currently the ASCU classifies ACU as a "private-research university" with the New Liverpool Daily ranking the school at 37th Overall, 19th in Student Life, 15th in Research, and 23rd in Student Success.
ACU Way[edit | edit source]
The ACU Way is a major academic and social honor code which is at the core of the operations of ACU. Based on Revivalist teachings, violations of the code can mean academic demerits or even total expulsion. Students of opposite genders are prohibited from each others gender-exclusive housing, engaging in public displays of affection and all female students must cover their heads when entering the Holy College. Dress and appearance is also regulated overall, with all clothing being required to be a certain length below the knees and a certain length along the arms for women. The ACU Way has come under legal challenges, however has been defended in several court cases. In 2015, a former student who was expelled for being in the same housing dormitory as her male cousin sued ACU for unjust financial damages. The case which was initially ruled in favor of ACU by the Ambonar Province Supreme Court was sent to the Supreme Court which determined that all students who attended institutions with specific honor codes were not allowed to sue for their expulsion unless they could prove their expulsion was not based on a specific guideline. In 2018, ACU amended their policy to allow for interaction between male and female students within dorms if they were of the same family or could provide a written recommendation of their holiness from a Revivalist priest.
