The Green Party of Slokais is a political party in Slokais Islands that was founded in 1989. The Green Party is primarily a left-wing political party with support from environmentalist policy. The Greens came to prominence in the 2000 Election, where Sean Khan became the first and only President from the Green Party.
History[edit | edit source]
The Green Party was founded in 1989, splintering from the Left Party which was the dominant left-wing party at the time. It gained its first seat in 1992 and slowly grew in seats over the 1990s. Sean Khan a rural farmer and academic became the leader of the party, in 2000 during the Financial Crisis of 2000, Sean Khan quickly gained support from those who wanted a new economy. He finished 3rd in the first round, however, neither the Centrists nor the Conservatives got over 50% so it became a runoff with the 4 candidates, In the end, Khan got just over 50% winning the presidency. Meanwhile, the Greens got up to 65 Seats and helped push some environmental policies through the Green, Left, Socialist Alliance, or the Traffic Light Alliance. This Alliance only held till 2004, when the Conservatives and the Centrists gained control back. As a party, the Greens did well until 2008 when Sean Khan and the Greens lost seats due to their response to the 2nd Economic Crisis in 10 years and the 2nd Kaijan War. Sean Khan retired and the party began to rebuild without him. The Greens regained support in 2016 and 2018 aligning themselves with the National Alliance in 2017. In 2018 after the success of his book, Sean Khan returned with new policies and helped the party gain 10 seats in 2020.
Policy and Support[edit | edit source]
The Green Party was originally a party of well-educated urbanites, but over time had transformed to gain support from rural and suburban moderates, the Greens have roughly equal support across racial and gender lines. The Green Party is generally socially liberal similar to the National Alliance although is less nationalistic and is strongly anti-war. The Greens have supported climate change action and the expansion of policy, however, there is a strong wing of the party that has done well in rural areas thanks to welfare and development programs.
