The Kabo War is an ongoing civil war in Kabo Geshaan which has been waged between the federal government, Geshaanian clans, and Zindawla militant groups since 2004. The roots of the conflict lie in the country's flawed transition to democracy in 2003-2004, as the perceived marginalization of the Zindist community led Zindist groups to take up arms and ally with local warlords wary of the transition process. In 2004, Zindawla forces launched a lightning campaign from their base in the north, which nearly took the capital city of Anjerra before being stopped by clan forces and the remnants of the ancien-regime military. The conflict has subsequently varied in intensity, and has featured multiple international peacekeeping operations aimed at fostering peace and national reconciliation.
