Jane Tao is a Laeralian actress and pop singer known as one of the most prominent currently-active Laepop artists. Born in Miaoshi, Laeral, Tao moved to Althea at a young age. She became prominent through her television roles as a teenage actor, particularly on the youth drama 100,000 Degrees, she embarked on a singing career with her self-titled 2016 album. Known for her autobiographical songs with themes of love and heartbreak, Tao became the most successful female solo artist in Laeral in 2019 with the release of her album Breaking Through. Beginning in 2019, Tao was nicknamed "the Queen of Hearts"; her fans are known as Heartstoppers. Her 2023-25 The Mystery of You World Tour was among the top five most highest-grossing tours by a female artist of all time; the album was the first of Tao's to feature English-language songs. She has collaborated with numerous other artists over the course of her career, and was named by Aujourd'hui magazine as Woman of the Year in 2025.

Tao's music highlights her vocal performances and is often autobiographical in nature. Although her early work featured a polished sound, 2021's Skipping Stones experimented with a more stripped-down sound, and subsequent albums have been more experimental in nature.
