The Slokasian Independent Catholic Church, commonly known as the Church of Slokais is an independent Catholic denomination in Slokais Islands. Founded in 1830 as the San Fernando Independent Catholic Church in response to the Sanctarian Catholic Church's restrictions on the usage of the Spanish language and new restrictions by the Diocese of New Liverpool. In the 1880s, the Church became one of the primary supporters of Slokasian independence, with the Church taking upon the name Slokasian Independent Catholic Church. In the 1950s, the name was changed officially to the Church of Slokais as the Church became more nationalist under the government of Juan Costa. Juan Costa thus began promoting and favoring the COS over the Sanctarian Church in both policy and practice, attending and being an active force. By 1960, the COS had 12 million members, yet declined significantly in the post-war period and the succeeding religious revivals of the 70s and 80s. Today, the SICC holds principles similar to the Sanctarian Catholic Church, yet it is not in communion with Sanctus and has a separate system of church governance. Additionally, the SICC has been more socially conservative and does not perform the Latin Mass. Today, the SICC is most popular in the province of San Fernando as well as in areas with large Costanoan populations.
