San Jose is a city in Slokais Islands. Founded in 1929, as a part of the Grand Industrial Plan. San Jose is known for its large tech industry, with several companies based in the city's Midtown district. The city is rapidly expanding due to a growing tech and car manufacturing industry.

History

San Jose was originally a small Minjian temple and surrounding farming community known as Calangzhe. Calangzhe reached a population of around 2,000 as estimated by Fransisco de San Jose on his visit to the area in 1610. In his documented journey along the San Fernando River, he called the area that became San Jose "An area of lush valleys and low hills, desirable for future settlement"[a]. Missionaries would return in 1635 with a team of builders consisting mostly of slave labor and indentured servants and would construct Mission de San Jose Arcangel. Upon its completion, the town of Calangzhe grew to become the seat of government for Calenderas Municipo by 1715. During the colonial era, several other towns were established in what is now San Jose such as Perdido and Guadalupe Caleras.

Republic Era

When Slokais Islands was created, San Jose became part of San Fernando Province which stretched from the mouth of the San Fernando River to the river's source. From its conception, those in the southern parts of the Province argued the province was dominated by former colonial elites in San Fernando. During the 1910s, activists in Calangzhe protested for a new province to be created, many of those being farmers angered by the high transport fees imposed in the Port of San Fernando.[b] This general anger was capitalized on by Richard Livingstone in 1925, as he pushed through the creation of a new province with a new planned capital known as San Jose. In 1927 was incorporated as a city covering a large area of undeveloped space for a planned capital and business district.
