The Costenan Empire was an empire between 1502 and 1876 based out of Costeno in present-day Lauchenoiria, that had colonies ranging from parts of Zargothrax in the west to Aredoa in the east.

Origins

The empire began in the Kingdom of Costeno, then an independent kingdom in southern Lauchenoiria. Costeno controlled much of the south of the Lauchenoirian area; regularly fighting for control of the interior with Fleura, Yervia and Zongongia. With the easiest access to the oceans of the area, the early Costenans began to see imperial conquest overseas as a way to enhance their standing at home and gain further riches and power. In 1503, Costeno cemented control over the interior of Lauchenoiria, conquering much of the land that previously belonged to Yervia; beginning their empire.

Early expansion

The first successful Costenan explorers landed in Slokais Islands in 1510, creating San Fernando colony.

Height of the empire

In 1730, Costeno finally managed to colonise Aeluria, a neighbouring island which had managed to defend against their attacks for two centuries - much to the displeasure of Costenan authorities. In 1765, Costeno also managed to forcibly colonise Aredoa, near their Slokaisian colony.

Collapse

In 1820, the colony in Slokais Islands was lost after Costenan forces were attacked by [insert other empire here], who then took control of the colony. In 1876, Aredoa declared independence, which was later recognised by Costeno in 1879 with the signing of the Treaty of Vahania. Two years later, in 1881, the people of Aeluria united with disaffected Costenans, primarily those residing in the north of the country (now Ecanta province of Lauchenoiria), and managed to overthrow the Costenan monarchy, resulting in the independence of Aeluria, the establishment of a republic, and thus the final collapse of the Empire.

Legacy

The Spanish language of Costeno was spread by the Empire throughout the globe, becoming a primary language in at least one country on each continent; including some that were not former colonies such as Iustos due to strong trade links and immigration.
