Caridd (Embolalian: Câridd)is the capital city of Embolalia. It is the center of the nation's government, with the Parliament, Supreme Court, and headquarters of the government agencies located there. It is the historical center of Embolalian culture, and is the oldest known settlement in the islands. The city is a hub for both government and commerce, with many corporations having their headquarters in the city. As the national capital, Caridd is the home to a number of embassies, mostly centered in the "Embassy City" area of the Capitol Ward.

Caridd can refer to a number of things. It can be used to refer to Greater Caridd, which encompasses most of the metropolitain area; the City of Caridd, which refers specifically to the downtown financial and commercial center, or to the Capitol Ward and the national government centered there.
The origin of the term Caridd is unknown. It is generally accepted that the name comes from that of the river that runs through the center of the city, the River Caridd, but it is unknown where the river acquired its name.
The name can be pronounced and written in two ways. The first is in Embolalian: Câridd, which is pronounced with the â sounding as the a in father, and the dd sounding as the th in the. The second is the English bastardization, used in this article, Caridd, pronounced with the dd sounding as a d, and the a sounding as in either care or car.

The ancient history of Caridd, like much of Embolalia, is unclear. It is believed that Caridd is the first major settlement in Embolalia, and that other settlements spread out from it.
Prior to the arrival of Europeans, Caridd was functioning as a sort of capital city. Government was not as centralized, but it is known that native Embolalians had a form of national government focused in Caridd.
During British colonization, Caridd became the center of the colonial government.
