The Federation of Legionas, simply known as Legionas, is a democratic Federation in the International Democratic Union located in East Catica bordered by three nations namely Shen to the North, Rhand to the North East and Xiomera to the East. With its six regions and one Federal Capital Territory containing an estimated population of over 95 million residents, it is considered an economic ,social and political powerhouse in the region. The capital, Aunistria, was officially proclaimed on the 11th of October 2019 after over a decade of planning and development. The largest city and former capital, Bayview, is considered the gateway into Legionas and with a population of 6.5 million in the city and adjacent suburbs and 18 million in the metropolitan area, is one of the largest cities in the entire IDU. Other cities that have populations of 3+ million residents include Moense, Wasedron and Verdesia. Verdesia was the first capital of Legionas when it proclaimed independence in 1776 and is still the seat of the royal family, The House of Verdesia. The population is mostly situated on he coast but the inland population has grown exponentially over the last 50 years as a result of a government initiative to populate the sparsely populated interior as well as decongest the coastal cities. As of 2019, around 62% of the population resides on the coast and the other 38% resides in the interior. The interior is mostly dominated by mountains, forests and the Smirnya Valley.
Little is known of the history of the tribes that inhabited Legionas and various archaeological sites are dotted around the country which are being studied to this day.The Ermizat Kingdom was officially proclaimed at around 1092 A.D and officially began trading with its neighbors namely Xiomera and the Shen Empire to the north. The Navy has been the cornerstone of the Legionas Armed Forces for centuries thanks to its large coastline.
The economy of Legionas was dominated by natural resources for centuries and small arms manufacturing for its own needs. After the Legionas Civil War, the powers of the Monarchy were severely diminished and large scale public works, industrialization and business-friendly legislation has led to the economic miracle that the Federation experienced from the early 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The Golden Age of Legionas is widely believed to be now as, thanks to the work of the leaders of the 20th century, the Federation is one of,if not, the most dominant nations in Catica and the entire International Democratic Union.
Etymology
While many theories surmise as to the etymological origins of Legionas, the name is now accepted as coming from the Legisatto and Ermizi words of Le'gon meaning 'Land of Wonder' and Legoan meaning 'God's Resting Place' respectively. At independence the name Legionas was decided to unite the dominant groups in the area. The standard way to refer to someone from Legionas is Legionite, although 'Legionasian' is also acceptable and used interchangeably.
History
Early History
Fossils found in Legionas in the early 20th Century indicate that early humans roamed the area more than 50,000 years ago. Findings in the Smirnya Valley in 1905 show that small-scale settlements were common around 12000 years ago. Between 2000 B.C to 500 B.C an early Ermizi city by the name of Ya'edsa dominated the northern region of Legionas until its collapse due to diseases brought by traders of unknown origin. The early Ermizi and Legisatto settlements mostly focused on trade, agriculture, nomadism and primitive blacksmithing.
Age of Ermizi Dominance
Between 100 A.D to 900 A.D, the Early States of Erimzat and Legisatta dominated the region and subjugated smaller settlements. battle lines were beginning to form with The Ermizat State in the South and The Legisatta State in the North. In 1090 the Ermizat Army invaded the Northern Legisatta State and defeated their army in the Battle of the Red River because the Ermizi Army threw all their dead foes into the Tyria River. Thus the Age of Ermizi Dominance began. In 1092 A.D the Ermizi State became united under King Rumius the Conqueror. He was offered the throne after commanding the Ermizat Army and gaining a decisive victory against the Legisatta Army. The Ermizat Kingdom annexed a section of Legisatta land and subjugated the rest as a slave state. The capital city was decided to be on the banks of the Eria River where the city of Nineveh now sits. The new Kingdom immediately began to consolidate its land and diversify its relatively small economy.
