The Senate of Eiria is the unicameral legislature of the Eirian Republic. The 450 seat body is the supreme decision-making body in Eiria, and while Eiria has smaller legislatures at the provincial level, in most circumstances, the national Senate holds the power of final judgement. Senators are elected via Proportional Party-List Representation, with a Panachage voting system to determine seat allocation amongst members of a particular party. Each Province is divided into electoral Kortairei of roughly one million people, with each individual Kortair electing five Senators. Seats are allocated by the D'Hondt method.
History
Powers
The Senate has the utmost authority over making Eirian laws and policy. It also is responsible for confirming cabinet Ministers, issuing declarations of war, managing budgets, ratifying treaties, and running impeachment hearings for important government officials.
Organization
The Senate is divided into 19 committees, with an unofficial 20th "Invisible Committee" that may be called in case of a national crisis, major impeachment hearing, or other issue of national importance. Generally, each committee corresponds to an executive ministry, however, there are some ministries(Such as Defense) that have multiple governing committees. Each committee has 45 members, and each senator is allowed to be on two committees (except for the ones who chose to be part of the "Invisible Committee"). Additionally, each committee is divided up into multiple councils, which vote on bills in their purview before they reach the full committee. There are currently 91 subcommittee councils.
