The Mallacaland Parliament was created in 1999, after the creation of the Emirate of Mallacaland.
History
Its primary purpose was to introduce legislation, although until 2021, the Council of Emirs, as well as the King of Mallacaland, was allowed to overrule most members. Originally there were only 24 members, one from each Emirate, although this was changed in 2014. Parliament was almost exclusively dominated by the Mallacaland Tradionalist Front (MTF). Before 2021, the last elections were conducted in 2015, with elections planned in 2019 delayed until 2021. As a part of the new constitution, the Mallacaland Parliament was reformed in 2021 to have the ability to pass laws without oversight as well as elections every 4 years from 2019 onward.
