The Our Freedom Party (commonly abbreviated as the OFP) is a Tsiba political party founded in 2008. They have regularly had support in the region of Vi'atsy and in rural areas. The party is a right-wing Islamist party. While many of the party's economic and welfare policies are liberal, their social policies are extremely conservative. The party failed for years to get approval from the federal government, which many speculate was an attempt by the Shooda-Tsiba to keep Islamist parties out of power.
History
The OFP was founded in 2008 by Salar Afshar, a former member of the Shooda-Tsiba party. The party is the descendent of previous Islamist political movements in the country, particularly the Islamic Defenders of Tsiba. Afshar had resigned from his position as Third Minister of the City of Shuputsy in 2002, with the intentions of founding the party and entering into the 2003 elections. However, paperwork delays stalled the creation of the party for another five years, during which time Afshar and his supporters began building a base in Shuputsy and surrounding regions.
OFP membership increased rapidly during early 2008, and, that year, the party was in control of fourteen seats in the Representative Legislature, additionally winning four seats among the City Ministers. Membership in the party has steadily increased, although the party struggles to gain support in urban areas outside of the region of Vi'atsy.
In 2018, Salar Afshar stepped down as leader of the party. Hesam Eketava was elected from within the party to fill the vacancy.
Party Platform
The OFP's party platform was established by Afshar in 2003. The OFP's goals are to:
1) Create a society that is prosperous, secure, and stable
2) Re-instate Islam as the state religion
3) Expand the military and increase aid to muslims internationally
4) Increase economic support for farming communities
5) Enshrine conservative social values into law by re-imposing morality legislation put in place during the Islamic Republic Era
6) Increase Social Welfare
