The Sanctarian Ambassador to the World Assembly is the leader of the Sanctarian delegation to the World Assembly. The position was established in legislation as the "Permanent Representative of the Divine Republic of Sanctaria to the World Assembly, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary"; it is more commonly referred to as the Ambassador to the World Assembly, however.
The Sanctarian Ambassador, currently Dr. Katherine Saunders, is charged with representing Sanctaria in the both General Assembly and in the Security Council in the World Assembly; since the establishment of the Security Council, however, representatives from the Divine Republic have had a policy of boycotting the body due to what successive Sanctarian governments have perceived as problematic working practices. Like all Ambassadors from Sanctaria, he or she must be nominated by Government of Sanctaria and confirmed by the Senate before being appointed by the President of the Divine Republic.
The position was originally created in 2002 as a ministerial position in the Sanctarian Department of Foreign Affairs; in 2011 the decision was made by the then government to abolish the miniseterial position and appoint a full-time Ambassador who operated independent of domestic politicking and electioneering.
Veteran diplomat Katherine Saunders was nominated for this position by Foreign Secretary Yasminé Pontif and was confirmed by the Senate. She assumed office upon presenting her credentials to the World Assembly Secretariat on 01 September 2017.
