Liga 1 is the second-division of the Slokasian football. Originally founded in 1920 as Division 1 the league was the top-flight until 2001. In that year, 8 clubs formed the Slokasian Premier League to create more competition and revenue among them. Division 1 was then renamed as Liga 1 in 2004 with Liga 2 and Liga Nasional being formed at the same time. Since, 2004 Liga 1 has consisted of 22 clubs playing each other twice, home and away. The regular season lasts from September to April with the top team qualifying automatically and places for 2-6 playing each other in other in a 4 team tournament with the winner earing an automatic place in the Federation Cup Quarter-Final and a chance to play the 11th placed team in the SPL for a spot in the next season's SPL. The bottom 3 teams are relegated to Liga 2. | |||
