The New Right was founded in 1999 as a follow-up to the National Reform Party who held similarly far-right viewpoints. In taking advantage of the 2000 economic crisis to gain its first seats in Parliament, it grew slowly over time until 2012 when it went up to 30 seats over the next few elections it grew in size under its leader Micheal Spencer who often appeared on talk radio with founder Alexander Lin who has been one of the most controversial figures. In 2021 it was discovered that members of the party were actively involved in the United Front militant organization. Repsentive John Woods was removed and charged with collusion with a militant organization and involvement in multiple deaths from the United Front.
