Air Maritimes, formerly known as Sarene Airways, is a low-cost Haesanite flagged airline with an emphasis on leisure travel. It is headquartered in Altina, Southern Maritimes and is the second largest airline in Haesan by revenue and passengers carried. The airline primarily operates short and medium haul routes and operates the Maritimes Shuttle service, an inter-island air shuttle service between the Sarene islands. It is a member of the international code sharing group Astral Alliance.

History[edit | edit source]

Air Maritimes is headquartered at Altina Vezina International Airport

Founded in 1971, Sarene Airways was founded as the flag carrier of the Sarene Republic. Maximusian investment was heavily responsible, as the government encouraged investment to support the economy of newly independent Sarene Republic, which was highly dependent on tourism but lacked suitable infrastructure. The first route between Iustitia City's Milton Airport and Altina opened on June 12, 1971, and early routes were primarily from the cities of Altina and Constantia to Maximusian destinations.

In the 1980s, reform in the Slokais Islands and warming relations with Laeral expanded the airline's presence in the region, reaching 10 million passengers a year in 1988. In 1991, the economic shock of the Sarene debt crisis and the subsequent unification of Haesan and Sarena led the airline to declare bankruptcy, and it went into Haesanite government conservatorship. During this period, ridership dramatically fell as the airline lacked investment and the government gave Air Haesan preferable selections in route formation and gate selection.

In 2006, the Pak Ye-ju government auctioned off the assets of Sarene Airways to private investors as part of her initiative to reduce government bloat. The airline was acquired by an association of institutional investors, led by the Geomeunbyeol Investment Group. The new owners rebranded the airline as Air Maritimes, further focusing on leisure travel and streamlining the fleet. In recent years, the airline has expanded its routes to include Caxcanan destinations with the increased range of Narae Q510 aircraft, first traveling to Kurwai, Darya in 2016, and now offers routes from Suyang (via Altina) to Huenya and Eiria. In 2021, Air Maritimes helped fund the construction of the 30 gate Terminal 2 at Altina Vezina International Airport exclusively for Air Maritimes flights, which was completed in February 2025.
