King Shapur XIV (born 22nd June 1970) is the current King of Zargothrax, an absolute monarchy in Neria. He is widely believed to be clinically insane, and leaves much of the governance of the country to his son, Prince Bahman, while running odd scientific experiments in the basement of the Royal Palace.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Shapur was the third son of King Navid III, and as such was unexpected to inherit the throne. However, his two older brothers passed away during the Thraxian Plague of 1996 when a virus of unknown origin swept across the country quickly and disappeared just as suddenly. Shapur also succumbed to the plague briefly, but survived and recovered - however many believe his infection caused serious brain damage.
Religious conversion[edit | edit source]
When Shapur was eighteen, he converted from Zoroastrianism to the modern religion Cosmic Infinity which has been criticised as a cult. He is the only member of the Royal Family to follow Cosmic Infinity, with even his own children being Zoroastrians. The exception is a single sister of the King who converted to Islam. Shapur has come under sharp criticism for the conversion, with many Thraxian subjects confused by their monarch's lack of belief in the state religion.
Scientific experiments[edit | edit source]
Shapur is fixated on genetically engineering either a unicorn or a fire-breathing dragon. Despite the unlikely nature of either of these pursuits, he spends much of his time in the basement of the Royal Palace attempting experiments with a team of scientists he employs. It is believed many of these scientists do not wish to partake in such experiments, however Thraxian law is such that employees are not permitted to quit their jobs without permission; which many criticise as a form of modern serfdom.
Family life[edit | edit source]
King Shapur has six children - Prince Bahman (born 2001), Prince Golshan (born 2006), Princess Mina (born 2009), Princess Leila (born 2012), Prince Jahangir (born 2013) and Prince Amir (born 2016).
