Rogelio Paloma Santiago (born 14th April 1955) was President of Lauchenoiria from October 2018 until July 2019. He was formerly a member of the Social Democratic Party but has been an independent since 2016.
Early life & education[edit | edit source]
Paloma was born in Carville in southern Lauchenoiria. His family lived in a village outside of Carville and he attended the local school until the age of 10, when the family relocated to Lorentonia in Fleura Province. He has lived in Fleura Province since.
Political career[edit | edit source]
As a Member of Parliament, he championed an initiative to make all public transport accessible throughout Lauchenoiria, as his wife is a wheelchair user.
He was also part of a cross-party group of MPs, including Josephine Alvarez, who campaigned for increased animal protection measures.
In 2014, he lost his seat in the federal parliament in the Liberal Party surge. He was elected to the Fleuran provincial parliament a year later, and became Deputy First Minister in a Liberal-SDP coalition. However the coalition collapsed when the SDP elected Cassidy Laurens as leader, who took a more confrontational approach to working with other parties. He remained as deputy first minister in the interim, but in January 2016 quit the SDP over their new confrontational stance. The Liberals and independent members formed a new coalition and he retained his post.
In 2018, the Lauchenoirian unity government headed by Keitha Noguera appointed him Vice President, and he succeeded Kieran MacKenzie as President when MacKenzie resigned in October.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
He is an avid sports fan, particularly of football. He regularly attends matches.
He has a wife, two children and one grandchild.
