The '''Merég''', literally meaning "our king," was a standardized [[Valahandian]] gold coin minted from as early as the late 15th century to 1821. The coins contained around 2.8 grams of nominally pure gold and saw widespread usage as a standard unit of exchange across the globe begining in the 18th century because of the extensive Valahandian maritime empire and trade network. The obverse side of the Merég traditionally bore the likeness of the reigning [[monarch of Valahandia]] in the year of the coin's issuance, while the reverse frequently featured a Latin cross or fleur-de-lis, two of the heraldic symbols associated with the Valahandian Empire.
