===Church rule & Melissan split===
In 1442, the Zongongist Church took full control of the government, whereas previously the church had allowed a civil administration to handle non-religious matters. Under church rule, Zongongism became mandated, with non-Zongongists being expelled from the country. During this period, [[Valahandia]] invaded Zongongia, occupying much of the south of the country. Non-Zongongist residents of the south, fearing persecution, sided with the invaders and creating Melissa as a semi-colony, semi-autonomous state. This territory was disputed by the Church until the 1890s, when a democratic revolution ended Church rule in the country.
