==History==
===Formation & early history===
At some point in antiquity, the religion of Zongongism was formed within the area, spreading throughout present-day Zongongia alongside some of present-day Kerlile and Lauchenoiria, as well as possibly Greater Acadia. During the formation of early kingdoms, Zongongist worshippers attempted to establish their own religious state, which became Zongongia. The territory held by Zongongia has varied throughout the centuries, both by invasion of imperialist powers, and shifting religious demographics. For the majority of history, however, Zongongia was comprised of the present-day territory along with what is now [[Melissa]] Province of Lauchenoiria.

===Church rule & Melissan split===
In 1442, the Zongongist Church took full control of the government, whereas previously the church had allowed a civil administration to handle non-religious matters. Under church rule, Zongongism became mandated, with non-Zongongists being expelled from the country. During this period, [[Valahandia]] invaded Zongongia, occupying much of the south of the country. Non-Zongongist residents of the south, fearing persecution, sided with the invaders and creating Melissa as a semi-colony, semi-autonomous state. This territory was disputed by the Church until the 1890s, when a democratic revolution ended Church rule in the country.

===Democratic period===
In 1888, a democratic revolution overthrew Church rule and established the separation of church and state. The monarchy, which was allowed to exist during the theocratic period but was subservient to the church, was returned to a position whereby the monarch was the head of state - however, the monarchy would now be subservient to parliament.
