UN Patient Rights Treaty
#1

Hello,

Last night I woke in the middle of the night and thought that a way to get one of the new IDU members more involved in the UN might be if one of us that has run the gambit of drafting a proposal, campaigning for quorum, and then debating it were to co-author a resolution with a IDU newbie.

The trick is often to find something that can pass the gauntlet of "sovereignty" ... so we need an idea that has international focus. I think one thing that might not be addressed is the idea of having a UN agreement that patients have the right to know if they are undergoing an experimental procedure. I loosely titled this a UN Patient Rights Treaty, but I think a more appropriate title might be better.

Basically I think we need to find a way to basically say:

Given that medical practices vary from nation to nation and believing that international tourism and travel are critical to economic growth, some minimum standard regarding patient rights should be established.

So what should the most BASIC rights be?

LMAO

I'm afraid it's already been done, unless you're planning something different than that.

Actually that is exactly what I was thinking about ... perhaps I'll stick to thinking while awake. Wink

It seems there was some dissatisfaction with the initial resolution, and desire to repeal it; if this was done, I would think we could help with replacing it.

I already have a replacement written which I'm happy with. I'm not going to repeal PRA myself, but if anyone else ever does then no hard feelings. It'll just give me the opportunity to submit my replacement. You can view the latest text of it here:

Franxico, is it a replacement that actual requires a prior repeal?

Or is it omething that can be adopted first, and then make a case for repeal easier?

It's pretty much a carbon copy of the current PRA resolution, so it would require a repeal.

Maybe it's time to talk Norderia into reviving his repeal proposal.
That latest current draft is admittedly still not NatSov-friendly, but it does fix most of the other problems that I had with the PRA (although there's still the question of whether whoever's going to have to pay for any treatments, if the patients concerned aren't doing so themselves, should have any say in the matter...)
