I, Newk (Max, Newk Island, "the nation formerly known as New Cormingland") of Futaba Aoi has been welcomed as a "tourist" at the International Democratic Union (IDU) and Equilism.

On Sept. 20, 2006, my first act as a tourist was to be in three places at once. I went to the games and some off-topic sections of all three regional forums.
The big game in Futaba Aoi was still "Who'll Post Next," a game where you try to guess who'll post next. I think that's why the game is called "Who'll Post Next."
Of course, the players squeeze in spam, jokes, side comments, and other fun things. It doesn't really hurt the game because all it takes to get back into the game is to guess who'll post next.

The game that really got my attention over at Equilism was "Nation Creation Competition 3." Players create a puppet during a certain time period before the contest starts. During the contest period, each nation that ends up last in the NationStates UN rankings is eliminated (except if the ranking is a population thing).
This looks like fun because it is a game of both skill and luck. You have to manage your puppet, but you're also at the mercy of chance. What if the next UN ranking is for "most free nation"? Then a dictator will lose. But if the UN ranking is "least free nation," then a dictator wins!
One benefit: your region grows bigger thanks to some very interesting puppets!
Another benefit: you get to experiment because you might run your puppet differently than you do your "real" nation.

My visit to the IDU took me to their "Off-Topic" subforum. The thread "NationStates isn't the only 'Fantasy World'" is really interesting.
It's about these man-made islands being built off the coast of Dubai. One group of islands is made to resemble a map of the whole world! You can own "Iowa" island, for example (even though it doesn't really look like Iowa). Amazing!
As a graphic designer, I also enjoyed IDU's "Custom Flag Service" forum.

That's it for now! Until next week!
