Thoris: A Valley, Village, or Canton?
#1

Hi all,

Right now Mikitivity has 7 named cantons:

* Aslan
* Hawkins
* Nickenstein
* Nolanstadt
* Miervatia
* Solacewald
* Valitz

Also a number of us have placed Thoris pines in our native habitat. I'm soon going to introduce a form of cattails into Mikitivity that I figured likely came from a southern nation, meaning I'll do the write-up, but the cattail name is best coming from one of your nations.

However, I am having a hard time deciding if Thoris pines are named after a valley in Mikitivity, a canton (I need more than 7), or a village. It is possible to have a small canton that takes its name from the valley, so the answer can be any or all of the above.

Responses are welcomed.
This poll is open to anybody! Smile

Danke! :argh:

I tend to support maybe a small river that is the source of the name of all others (like, Thoris(fluss (or -flu? if you don't support the Rechtschreibreform) ) => Thoristal, Thorisstadt and Thoris Big Grin)

And too bad there's this whole huge ocean, for Baranxtuan cattails surely'd have such beautiful names like Majjaγη, Aki?a or Irjatemiβarη, all so full of Happy Fun Special Characters ™ Wink

And one somewhat off topic comment and one totally superfluous... thing:

But remember, the more cantons, the more articles you'll be legally obliged to write (which I can enforce, because I got all this power and... stuff

Oh, I know that for every canton, there are multiple articles: the canton and the seat of the canton. But I'm in no rush.

There will eventually be a Mt. Zerg (hopefully you guys recognize where I'm stealing that form). Smile

And this morning I decided I need a Tauber canton as well. (Also stolen.)

Well, it looks as though there will be a Thoris Valley in Mikitivity, that will also be the name for a canton (the valley and trees will predate the formal establishment of Thoris). The seat of Thoris will Leipfurt.

If you're looking to boost the number of cantons, would you consider spliting two existing ones into Halbkantons = demi-cantons? Switzerland theoretically has 23 full cantons (three of which are divided into two) but the distinction between a full and demi-canton is minimal. I think Miervatia Stadt and Miervatia Land would be a good fit, isolating the "cosmopolitan" capital city from its "parochial" hinterland.

That is an EXCELLENT idea! Smile It fits with Mikitivity and its Swiss model. I've started making coat-of-arms for the cities:

Eventually I'd love a ton of cantons, each featuring a major city-state. Leipfurt will feature a Thoris Pine. Ossendorf will have a bridge on its coat-of-arms. Oakmont (Hawkins canton) will have a scythe and Bavarian like diamond field. St. Claire (also Hawkins) will retain the diamond field, but have a half falcon.
