Education Credentials
#1

Another topic of interest:

Quote: The United Nations:

RECOGNIZING most member states possess education programs with differing methods of instruction,

NOTING these methods of instruction generally produce equivalent standards of education across states,

REGRETTING many member states do not recognize educational standards of other nations, even where equivalent to their own,

FURTHER REGRETTING many immigrants are forced to work jobs for which they are grossly overqualified as a result of this lack of recognition,

SEEKING to coordinate education standards throughout its member nations,

DEFINING for the purpose of this resolution ?credential? as any degree, diploma, certificate or other indication of the completion of an official education program.

1. ESTABLISHES the United Nations Organization for the Standardization of Education Credentials (UNOSEC), mandated to:
a) investigate the educational programs of member states registered with UNOSEC;
b) develop standards as to the credential requirements of certain professions;
c) create a list of equivalent credentials for each registered state.
d) assist registered states in improving their education programs so that hey may meet a higher level of credentials.

2. ENCOURAGES UN member states to register with UNOSEC and have its educational system investigated;

3. MANDATES all UN member states registered with UNOSEC must recognize the credentials of any individual that received equivalent credentials in other states registered with UNOSEC;

4. RECOMMENDS all UN members states registered with UNOSEC implement upgrading programs for those individuals whose credentials are not equal with the similar education offered in that state;

5. ALLOWS any UN member state registered with UNOSEC to rescind this status at any time, forfeiting all corollaries of membership;

6.URGES member states to recognize any equivalent credentials received in a foreign country, even where one or both states involved are not a part of UNOSEC.
Not "UNOSEC". United Nations Qualification, Universal Accredidation, Licensing and International Faculty Education Department. (U.N.Q.U.A.L.F.I.E.D.) Big Grin

On a more serious note, I'll analyze this.

Quote: The United Nations:

RECOGNIZING most member states possess education programs with differing methods of instruction,

NOTING these methods of instruction normally produce equivalent standards of education across states,
"Generally" instead of "normally" but that's OK.
Quote:
REGRETTING many member states do not recognize standards of education equivalent to their own,
REGRETTING that many member states do not recognize educational standards from other nations, even when equivalent to their own,
Quote:
FURTHER REGRETTING many immigrants are forced to work jobs for which they are grossly overqualified as a result of this lack of recognition,
I would add a "that" after FURTHER REGRETTING.
Quote:
SEEKING to equalize education standards throughout its member nations,
Not "equilize", "coordinate".
Quote:
DEFINING for the purpose of this resolution ?credential? as any degree, diploma, certificate or other indication of the completion of an official education program.
I like this in the action section, but meh.
Quote:
1. ESTABLISHES the United Nations Organization for the Standardization of Education Credentials (UNOSEC), mandated to:
a/ investigate the educational programs of member states registered with UNOSEC;
b/ develop standards as to the credential requirements of certain professions;
c/ create a list of equivalent credentials for each registered state.
I think the slashes make it hard to read.
Quote:
2. ALLOWS any UN member state to register with UNOSEC and have its educational system investigated;
Methinks "ENCOURAGES".
Quote:
3. MANDATES all UN member states registered with UNOSEC must recognize the credentials of any individual that received equivalent credentials in other states registered with UNOSEC;
Fine.
Quote:
4.URGES member states to recognize any equivalent credentials received in a foreign country, even where one or both states involved are not a part of UNOSEC.
Maybe even STRONGLY URGES.

Looks good, I'm sure others will have more *cough* content suggestions. Wink

I agree with this, at least "encourages." I would prefer mandates (I always do) but I understand why you don't.

Also, this could be the first resolution under the new "Education and Creativity" category Smile

Too much time on your hands? Tongue

Quote: I would add a "that" after FURTHER REGRETTING.
The that is extraneous... It's actually grammatically incorrect, at least as far as I understand.

Quote: I think the slashes make it hard to read.
I don't intend to use those; they're just the easiest way to avoid the damn smilies without turning them off every time.

Yep. In case anyone is thinking on the same line as Antrium, I don't want "Mandates" because this isn't designed to force anyone into doing things... just to help coordinate.
Of course, if you want your credentials recognized in another country, you'll have to accept others... that's the point.

I don't want to scare anyone off...

Antrium Also, this could be the first resolution under the new "Education and Creativity" Smile
That's the hope Smile

EDIT: Have put up a new version, incorporating both changes suggested here and elsewhere and my own reflections.

I have submitted this for a dry run; anyone want to help with a TG campaign later (probably middle of next week)?

I could probably help.

Thanks for volunteering. I probably won't actually pursue this until after the 20th at the earliest, as I'm a little bogged down by RL right now (trying to ensure I graduate from university and find a damn job). I'll bump this again when I'm ready.

Also note the version posted here is not final; though nothing substantive has changed, it did receive the "traditional" Fonzo rewrite elsewhere, which I will be encorporating in the end.

Are you still planning on submitting this? I think it's a really good idea that needs to be passed.

Once I get more time. I haven't been spending as much time on NS as usual, so I don't want to get anything rolling without the time to support it.
