Missile Hits Hindopia

By Lionel Krutch

36 minutes ago, a missile hit the ground and exploded in the region of Nanganis. It is unknown yet if there were any casualties in the incident but officials are calling for calm.

The missile hit at about 10:41 PM close to the edge of Nanganis. As the missile streaked down to the ground a witness said that it looked like it was out of control. He said that it was spinning in circles as it descended and then eventually exploded when it hit.

The government has only issued a very brief statement, delivered by Cabinet spokesman Daniel Hayess:

?We are unable to release any details about the origin of the missile as of yet, but we call for citizens to remain calm. We have not received any threats and believe that it is an isolated incident.?

We will have more on the story as it progresses.

Missile Confirmed To Be From Borucistan

The missile that hit the eastern end of Nanganis yesterday has been confirmed to be from the Rouge Nation of Borucistan, a very isolated island nation north of Hindopia.

Cabinet spokesperson Elliot Spence told a massive gathering of press officials at the Senatorial Auditorium this morning that the Department of Defence had confirmed that the missile originated from Borucistan?s main air force base, Gardinia Air Force Base. He has also confirmed that no one was injured or killed by the blast.
?The Department of Defence has confirmed that the missile was a test missile that originated from inside the Gardinia Air Force Base in Borucistan. We are in contact with the Borucastinian Government to ensure that this kind of incident does not happen again. No one was injured or killed by the blast.?

The missile hit the eastern end of Nanganis at 10:41AM yesterday morning, leaving a large crater in the ground and causing mild fires in the surrounding area. It is believed the test was a failure, however, because witnesses say that the missile was spinning out of control moments before it hit. The government and military were both put at DEFCON 3 when the missile impacted and two air force jets were deployed from Edwards Air Force Base, possibly because it was believed that Hindopia was under attack.

The Borucistinian Government has yet to issue a media statement to clarify their position in the incident. This behaviour is not uncommon to the reclusive nation whose government, in 2005, refused to comment for 7 weeks on the death of their long-time President, Elgadar Monrique, who served for 25 years as the nation?s leader. There are no clues as to when a statement will be released.

Borucistan Releases Press Statement

A press release was issued by the Borucistinian Government this morning, responding to the missile incident that occurred in northern Nanganis two days ago. A test missile fired from Gardinia Air Force Base in Borucistan failed and spun out of control, landing in a deserted field 20km from the nearby town of Kaltar.

The media spokesperson told press representatives that it was not the intention of the military to put any lives at risk during these tests.
?The Borucistinian Military had no intention to place any person in danger by firing this missile. It was an unfortunate situation and the General in charge of the programme has given me the utmost assurance that steps have been taken to ensure that it does not happen again. We are greatly relieved to hear that no lives were lost as a result of the missile failing and are pursuing discussion with the Hindopian Government to relieve tensions in this time. We sincerely apologize for the distress this most certainly would have placed on the citizens and government of Hindopia.?

A spokesman for the Chancellors Office also released a statement accepting the apology of Borucistinian Government.
?The Chancellor has already been in contact with the President of Borucistan and the General overseeing the missile programme. He thanks them for their formal apology and the honour that they showed by doing so. The Chancellor has also made clear to the Borucistinian President that such missile tests must take into account that Hindopia is located close to Borucistan and as such these missiles can present a danger to Hindopians. He has asked that the Borucistinian Military give warning to the Hindopian Military at least a week before they perform a missile test.?

The missile was fired as part of an unnamed project. The details of the project are classified top secret but rumours abound that the Borucistan Military is testing a short range missile to eventually replace their very outdated CO-193 short range missile.
