An idea for the UN
#1

Fellow UN members,

As you all know, there are frequent discussions in the UN between several groups. Some of them are organized more or less. For example, there are a National Sovereignity coalition and a Morality coalition.

The International Democratic Union has worked on establishing ties with other, like-minded regions. Now is the time to use those friendships. What the UN needs is a progressive alliance. A group of regional delegates who want to make the world a better place by supporting well-written resolutions that incease human rights, freedom and democracy, and social welfare.

A network like that can be used to create more and better resolutions by working together. It would also be more easy to campaign for proposals. If one region in the network has created a resolution, others will know sooner and are able to support the proposal.

The central place for the network could be placed here, on the IDU forum. Here proposals will be discussed before they're "released into the wild", and proposals that are worthy of our attention can be posted here.

The working-title for this is the Progressive Alliance.

How do you feel about this?

How about this?

Progressive Alliance Manifest

In a world full of war, of dictatorships, of human rights violations, we need to take the path forward. We need to make progress. For that, we have formed the Progressive Alliance. The nations and regions in this Alliance declare that they share the values of Freedom, Democracy, Peace and Respect, and that they adhere to this treaty.

Section I: Goals and mission
1. The name for the alliance is the Progressive Alliance. With this name, we indicate that we want to make progress towards a better world;
2. Nations in the alliance are required to promote Freedom, Democracy, Peace and Respect:
Freedom by valuing individual freedom to choose one's own destiny as long as no harm is done to another person or entity;
Democracy by giving each citizen the right to choose one's political representatives and governments;
Peace by refraining from aggression, by preferring the diplomatic solution, and by only using force when no other option exists;
Respect by treating other people as well as you would treat yourself, by promoting human rights, and by helping others where necessary.
3. The nations in the Progressive Alliance agree to:
a. Share information which might be usefull to the Alliance,
b. Co-operate on UN resolutions which promote the basic values of the Alliance, by writing, providing feedback and campaigning,
c. Inform others of worthwhile UN resolutions to approve,
d. Actively promote the values of the Alliance in discussions in the UN and regional fora;
4. Members of the Alliance are in no way obliged to provide millirairy support.

Section II: Procedures
1. Every region that values the principles of the Progressive Alliance can apply for membership;
2. As the Alliance is mainly concerned with UN, a region should preferably be represented by a Delegate to a region;
3. The Progressive Alliance is officially represented by the Chairman;
4. The Chairman is elected every 4 months by the members of the Alliance;
5. The Chairman must have at least 50%+1 of the votes in an election, in order to be elected;
6. The Chairman may appoint a Secretary to assist and support the Chairman;

Good. Smile Maybe also something about support in voting on each other's resolutions and giving tips for draft-resolutions?

I also have an idea for a forum, whether it's on the IDU or a seperate one.

New Members
Forum: Rules and Regulations
(this would include the manifest)
Forum: Sign up
(this would include something like a form to sign up with, and a current member list)

UN
Forum: Drafting proposals
(this forum would be used for drafting proposals)
Forum: On the proposal list/Being voted on
(this forum would be to notify fellow UN-Delegates that their resolution is either on the proposal list or is currently being voted on)
Forum: Resolution discussions
(this forum can be used for discussions on the current resolution at vote)

Other
General discussion
(general talk)
Politics
(real politics)
