Football Championships 2006?
#1

This time last year, we had the IDU Football Soccer Championships, hosted by Groot Gouda.

I'm not volunteering to score, since I have no idea how to do that, but I was wondering if we were having this again this year. It would be something fun to do before the Winter Olympics get started in a few months Smile

If so, we'll need a scorer, and 12 participants. (If we're having it, I officially declare myself as one of these 12 because I brought it up and that makes me special Tongue ) So, 11 then.

EDIT: The Antrian team representing the country this year will be the Anv?ln Hawks.

Ceorana will gladly participate in the soccer championship. We don't really want to score the soccer championship. Our government approves of soccer, and most of our citizens also like soccer. Soccer is good exercise, and playing soccer may reduce the risk of heart disease. In short, we like soccer.

we want to be in on it. and not host, or score it (because I have no idea how)

Saidercray will participate.
Is it a championship for national teams or for club teams?

Judging by the current feedback, no one's going to score.

I'm pretty sure I know how Groot scored it last year (because he explained it) and I could do it if no one else wants to. He had a fancy script, but I think I could do it by hand with the same results.

Saidercray: Each nation can send 1 team, so probably national teams. But I suppose it wouldn't really matter.

I was thinking about doing this next month, so you beat me to the chase. Smile

I'll definitely sign up for it, but I want to encourage us to actually go through with the interregional championship, too.

I think we should branch out from soccer, too, when we get the chance, like basketball, tennis, football, etc. championships.

We'll enter the Malabrian National Team (the Rhinos) as our squad.

Sorry, the Bears are more into rugby...

The scoring itself is easy, but the scheduling and accounting may be difficult.

Basically for each matchup, you need to query their daily UN rankings and compare each digit ... for each digit the team that has the higher number gets a point.

Team 1: 30,498
vs.
Team 2: 15,777

Score (Team 1 vs. Team 2): 3-2

The breakdown: 3 > 1 (Team 1), 0 < 5 (Team 2), 4 < 7 (Team 2), 9 > 7 (Team 1), 8 > 7 (Team 1)

I'll certainly participate, but let me talk to my folks tonight ... my grandmother was supposed to be in the state, but my brother said she is ill. I may have time to create a schedule and score a tourny in a few weeks.

Miervatia City puts in bid to Host the 2006 IDU Fussball Championships

Miervatia, Mikitivity
Miervatia Today

In a surprise move, the mayor of Miervatia City placed a bid to host the 2006 IDU Fussball Championships later this month. Also known as the IDU Soccer or Football Championships, depending on the nation, the first fussball championships were held last September in Groot Gouda. The games were the first of their kind in the International Democratic Union, and considered an important step in the region's attempt to one day host a larger international sporting event such as the Olympics.

The Miervatian bid includes plans to host up to twelve teams, naturally including Mikitivity's national team -- affectionately known as the Schneegespenst. A Mikitivity based officiating team would be joined by officials from other IDU leagues.

OOC: My grandmother won't be here til October now, so I'd love to score and organize the games. I'd appreciate it if somebody else would carry the games in their national newspapers. Naturally the above announcement can be edited or reprinted in anybody's national newspapers.

I'd be glad to cover the games in my newspaper if you'd like.

That would be great. What I'd like to do is then ask if other players are interested in putting in a bid and then deciding sometime in the next week. After that we can get started. Smile

Baranxtu will definitely participate; I'll keep the puppets at bay, though, unless we need some more nations to get to a nice number to work with in the end Wink

No team from Bears Armed will be entered, but there will almost certainly be some individual Bears amongst the spectators...

*bump*

Since we do not have an official mechanism for deciding who should host the games, if our Delegate approves my self nomination, I'll start a signup thread and build a basic 12-team list.

I have no problems with IDU puppets participating. That is the *point* of having puppets, but first priority to teams should be handed out such that each player has at least one team.

If you want I can put the teams in the script so you can use the automatic scoring. Yes it can be done by hand, but it's easier to make a mistake then and I found it getting tedious after, oh 2 matches of scoring by hand Wink

Sure, go ahead. Smile

Yeah, I agree with the puppets thing, but we won't be sending one, just my main nation.

That would be great. It will take us a week to get the teams decided upon!

Good to see you still lurking. Smile

The above can be used to spice up newspaper articles!

Since Adam Island and Isles of Koster were the winners last time, no preference will be given to the seating. I was thinking the top 2 teams of two divisions would make it to the 4-team semifinals in order to determine the two teams for the finals. The two divisions will be be randomly filled.

Antrium or Baranxtu, I'd appreciate it if in the next week if you could start a NSWiki stub with the list of teams of the 2005 Football Championship ... I don't think I'll have time (I'm working on some UN NSWiki stuff right now). The arcticle could be:

IDU Football Championships

Then it can talk about how this is an annual regional sporting event. A separate section can be created for each year, with a roster of teams and possible stastical results (and naturally a link back here).

Eventually a repeating annual event could be a recruitment tool. Smile Also a nice proof to the Olympics that we are serious about hosting an Olympics games.

That page was already made a while back Smile

Here.

EDIT: Team captain for the Anv?ln Hawks will be Leng?ron M?rnak, and the goal tender will be S?nes (The second s should be an s with a cedilla, like ? but with an s. It's showing up as ? for some reason.) Gr?o.

As for the Baranxtuan team, its name is "Lailja Baranxitutu/Lηlia Baranxtutu/Tigers of Baranxtu/Tigres de Baranktou/Lilane Baraŋeminmin" (damn that multilingualism policy!), but "Tigers of Baranxtu" for short Wink

Our Team captain is Ateni ?alωgge?nitu Imregi, and our main goal tender is Ik'an At'epakag

Keeslandia, got your Boyzz, but can you make up a team captain and main goalie for any newspapers. Naturally your papers can make up other player names too. Smile
