How legal are these things in your nation?
#1

Today, Baranxtu has issued a little report on the history of some laws, and the current status of some things. The list can be seen here.

Now, of course, we around here have been wondering what the stance on these topics of the other nations of the IDU is, or what the age minima in your nations are.

If you haven't had a related issue so far, use your imagination - Baranxtu did it too.

This could actually be relevant, especially the marriage related dates. If there are too large differences between the nations, we should maybe find a way to circumnavigate the problems when, let's say, two 16 year old citizens of Nation A life in Nation B and want to marry, which they can do according to A's laws but not to B's...

First, a comment:

Under the schnauzerlands legal regime, marriage is viewed as a religious private matter, and invokes no legal status or legal rights. The laws govern what is now labeled as "domestic unions," which convey a whole host of legal rights and relationship and is not affected by religious theory or doctrine.

Abortion: legal
Adoption (different-sex couples): legal
Adoption (same-sex couples): legal
Adultery: (may be evidence of grounds for dissolution of domestic unions, but is not a criminal offense)
Age of Sexual Consent: 14
Age of Majority: 18
Anal Sex: legal
Atheism: legal
Compulsory Education: 14 years (4-18)
Contraceptives: legal
Divorce: (Dissolution of Domertic Unions; divorce, per se, is a private religious matter)
Drinking Age: 18
Driving Age: 14 (restricted); 18 (unrestricted)
Marriageable Age: (domestic unions require age of majority)
Oral Sex: legal
Polygamy: iper se, is a private religious matter)
Premarital Sex: legal sexual activity not determined by martial status
Same-Sex Marriage: per se, is a private religious matter; domestic unions not limited to hetereosexual unions)
Smoking Age (tobacco): tobacco is illegal
Smoking Age (cannabis): cannabis is illegal
Voting: not compulsory
Voting Age: 18
With res[ect to the age of majority a court has authority to emancipate a minor under the age of 18 for good and sufficient cause, and if the court finds that the individual is capable of handling their affairs as an adult prior to age 18. In such instances, all rights and duties that apply at age 18 apply to an emancipated minor.

Age of Majority: 18
Anal Sex: legal
Atheism: legal
Compulsory Education: 4-17
Contraceptives: legal
Divorce: legal
Drinking Age: 16
Driving Age: 25
Marriageable Age: 18
Oral Sex: legal

We also have very strict rape laws apart from the rapist receiving a criminal sentence. A rape victim is granted the status of a divorced spouse therefore they are entitled to 50% of the rapists assets. If a child results from the rape and the victim does not wish to terminate, the victim is entitled to 50% of the rapists assets as well as child support until they reach the age of 18.

Marijuana is legal for private home use for religious or medicinal purposes but employers have the right to dismiss a worker who is under the influence just as they would for alcohol or any other drug.

As Lawtonia does not have many cars, driving is restricted to persons over the age of 25.

Polygamy is illegal for economic reasons. Since marriage includes legal and economic partnership it is restricted to two persons only. This avoids small groups of people getting married to each other to avoid business taxes. It is not a religious or moral issue.

I forgot to add that Lawtonia also recognises certain laws of other nations.

Although the age of marriage is 18 in Lawtonia, If two 17yo married citizens of Antrium decided to settle in Lawtonia, the government would recognise their marriage as being legal. This would be the case for al UN countries except if the married couple's age/s were below the Lawtonian age of consent. There are other exceptions but I don't think I need to go into them atm -

I just wanted to clear up the issue that Baranxtu was raising.

The Congressional Republic has the following rulings on these issues:

Abortion: legal in first trimester or where the health of the mother is in danger but strongly frowned upon by society
Adoption (different-sex couples): legal
Adoption (same-sex couples): legal

Good thread!

In Mikitivity local laws are not uniform to a national level, but are determinded by individual cantons.

The following is for Miervatia canton -- the canton most people associate with Mikitivity, as it is the seat of national government and international commerce.

Abortion: legal
Adoption (different-sex couples): legal
Adoption (same-sex couples): legal
Adultery: not prosecutable
Age of Consent: 15
Age of Majority: 21
Anal Sex: legal
Atheism: legal
Compulsory Education: 5-19
Contraceptives: legal (canton sponsored)
Divorce: legal
Drinking Age: none
Driving Age: 21 (exceptions for military and emergency response)
Marriageable Age: 21
Oral Sex: legal
Polygamy: legal
Premarital Sex: legal
Same-Sex Marriage: legal
Smoking Age (tobacco): legal
Smoking Age (cannabis): legal
Voting: not compulsory
Voting Age: 19 & graduation from cantonal civics program

p.s. the NSWiki articles should have links to explanations of what each of the categories are with examples of individual laws of various NS nations being incorporated into the articles. For example, it might be interesting to have a NSWiki article for everybody on "Voting Age" and to talk about a few extremes in the article. What does "Graduation from cantonal civics program" mean? That could be briefly explained.

The situation in 'Bears Armed' differs quite a bit from what seems to be your "usual" pattern, largely because of our species' basic nature...

Abortion: legal in medical emergencies, otherwise rarely even contemplated.
Adoption (different-sex couples): legal.
Adoption (same-sex couples): Same-sex couples?
Adultery: not prosecutable.
Age of Consent: When they're big enough they're old enough.
Age of Majority: Depends on individual circumstances, usually somewhere between 10 & 14.
Anal Sex: Not an Ursine practice. Do you Humans really...? Uggh!
Atheism: legal, but widely considered stupid.
Compulsory Education: until legally adult, but generally only part-time.
Contraceptives: legal, but rarely used.
Divorce: legal.
Drinking Age: When they're big enough they're old enough.
Driving Age: Driving what?
Marriageable Age: The higher of 'Age of Consent' & 'Age of Majority', for each individual.
Oral Sex: Not an Ursine practice. Do you Humans really...? H'mm, but of course you only have puny teeth...
Polygamy: legal, of course.
Premarital Sex: legal.
Same-Sex Marriage: What?
Smoking Age (tobacco): legal, but it's a rare custom.
Smoking Age (cannabis): What's cannabis?
Voting: Any legal adult, as long as they can explain what the basic rules mean when asked about them.

Medicinal cannabis has now become legal in Ferveo after a hotly contested High Court battle, but is strictly controlled. Will soon roll out nationwide as palliative therapy for those with diseases and conditions causing debilitating symptoms such as appetite loss and chronic nausea.
