[Groot Gouda]

In a discussion elsewhere in the members only part, the Free Land of the IDU came up. I thought it would be wise to discuss with the region what the FLotIDU should be, in case anyone wants to roleplay with it. From this discussion, a wiki page can be constructed for all to see and edit, but the basics should be discussed here so we can all agree on it. The Free Land was used originally by XG as a puppet founder of the region as you may know, and recently revived, protecting us from invasion.

I'll kick off by stating my view on what the Free Land is. Feel free to view it completely opposite.

The Free Land is rather boring. I see it a bit like the Aussie capital Canberra. Lots of government buildings, lots of empty/green land in between, mainly inhabited by government workers. There's a rather big building which hosts the departments represented on this forum, where the UN delegate and other government officials have their offices. Around it are embassies from all IDU nations. It should also have a university.

There should be all sorts of facilities for international stuff like sports, parties, celebrations.

There isn's much history, except that the founders seperated from The North Pacific after he changes there. It is run by a local democratic government supervised by a group of long-time IDU nations.

What would the population be like, I wonder. Is it largely populated by Mikitivitians, or Malabrians, or Sober Thoughtians(???), as it borders those lands, or is it a settler country composed of roughly equal members of each nationality? I of course favour the second, but others may not...

I think the predominant population would be direct descendants of the original North Pacifican refugees, related to the five nations that founded the IDU, but as cousins. The Free Land of the IDU as the regional capital, is neutral as to regional politics and passions, but it is the representative capital district of the region to the rest of the NS world, and the location of foreign diplomatic missions to the IDU.

For those of us who participate in the region's goverance, it is also our second home.

Think of the Free Landers as the Romans: descendants of a war refugee. No local people.

Although of course each nation can have a permanent delegation there, which means you'll find pretty much any IDU nationality there. Groot Gouda has a delegation which varies but usually 100-200 in the embassy, lobbying and in various minor positions in the IDU offices.

There will be plenty hotels and conference centers. And some kind of democracy monument.

If, as the representative of Groot Gouda suggests, the Free Land of the IDU is to be rather boring, the government of Stolidia would be pleased to cede sufficient territory to establish it. We think it would fit right in.

We already have territory for it... it's on the northern continent next to Mikitivity. I'm sure Stolidians are very welcome there; they'd fit right in!
