Greetings all you cheese lovers of the International Democratic Union. I had noticed that many of our nations seem to be exporting a lot of cheese and that Cheesemaking does seem to pop up alot in the UN stats.

I propose that as a bit of fun we start an international cheesemaking competition. This is just a fleeting idea atm so i have no idea how to go about it or who should host it and how it can be judged. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Just thought we all deserved a bit of fun after the recent upheavals with a certain departed nation.

Hence the "Cheese Exports" since we have a "Groot Gouda" whom is active in the IDU!

And I love the idea of an IDU cheese festival! I'll be out for Christmas, but what I'd like to suggest is that by some date (which one, we can discuss) each of us writes one or more paragraphs about the national cheese that is favored in our country (non-UN members are encouraged to participate too). You can even include an image of your cheese (you can use photobucket to host the image if you like).

We'll then vote, and turn that day into an annual Cheese festival in the winner's country! And I'll take all of the material from our paragraphs to make a [insert country name] Cheese Festival Wiki entry (naturally linking to all of the Wiki's for other countries).

I think it's a good idea. I agree with Mikitivity that it should be after Christmas, so maybe January?

If you want real types of cheese, you can get info at cheese.com. They have hundreds of cheeses there.

I'd suggest January 10th, because this is the birthday of a cheese afficionado in my family (namely, my mother), so in an egoistic move, I'd like that day to become a Cheese Day

Hey, it sounds like a good reason to me. So far that is two votes for the *voting* on "Best Cheese of the International Democratic Union 2006" to be held on Jan. 10.

OK, I've dropped the ball on this, but not forgotten. I'm still thinking of how to handle this, and will draft up some provisional "rules". I'd like to suggest that the first IDU Cheese Festival be held in the Free Land of the IDU.
