The Year is 1991...

"All Quiet on the Western Front" is an RP set in the early 1990's detailing the events of the Maximusian province of Bjeorg's bid for independence, the Maximusian bid to save their province, and the rest of the world's response to such a conflict.

Rules
  • It's open to anyone wanting to join in. DM me for more info.
  • It will be fairly fast paced It will not be faced paced at all. Expect a lot of time to be spent in July of 1991.
  • Normal RP rules apply: No nukes, no WMDs, no killing other people's characters without their consent (I like LOM, I don't want it to end up a crater)
  • If you have a neat cool side plot centered around your nation, you can feel free to make that.
  • This is set in 1991. There are no smartphones. Just some first gen cell phones. Keep that in mind when RPing.
  • When making a post you are not required to, but may, name your posts.
  • Ready to choose a side? Send me a DM if so.

Here is the background on Bjeorg’s motivation (it will become more evident as the RP progresses):

Spoiler:

This is getting bold font because it is important:
If you have an idea for anything regarding any aspect of this RP, do not hesitate to send me a DM, TG, etc.

Here is what has happened so far (regarding the central plot):

Xiomera's government wouldn't openly involve itself in such a conflict, but would be open to secretly helping whichever side in the conflict would be willing to cough up the most money (or would offer Xiomera the best advantages in future trade and diplomatic connections). Xiomerans are extremely pragmatic and to them, this would be all business. Ideology isn't especially important to them.

Xiomeran assistance could range from supplying provisions, weapons and "advisors" all the way to sending mercenaries (or Xiomeran soldiers masquerading as mercenaries) to help whichever side best suits Xiomeran goals. Admittedly, Xiomera would be a smallish nation at that time, so they probably couldn't tip the scales decisively for either side. But they could definitely make things interesting Smile

So glad to hear that there is interest. You are certainly welcome to get involved (though to a capacity I am not yet sure of) and I am sure there is a place for your nation. You are also welcome to DM me any time with questions comments concerns. Glad to see a new player jumping right in!

I will try to write up a hook post (the original post that is usually really long and detailed and sets the stage for the RP, giving people who haven't looked at the spoilers an idea of what is going on)in the near future. First I need to get Olympics Signups done. I don't want my RP to in any way to eclipse or be eclipsed by the Olympics.

The post I have up is just a hook. This RP will not be taking off until after the Olympics.

In 1991, Lauchenoiria was still ruled by a Communist government that outlawed support for capitalism. There was a crackdown happening at the time, which massively backfired and led to the government being forced to legalise capitalist political parties and have fully fair and free elections in 1993. So in 1991, Lauchenoiria would have been ruled by a dying dictatorship. That would, of course, impact on any participation I had. The Lauchenoiria of the time would probably support anything that destabilised a capitalist nation.

They publicly wouldn't endorse either side in any conflict, since neither side was communist or socialist.

Meanwhile, 1991 Kerlile was ruled by President Sara Viallamando, who increased the prison population and the number of executions but decreased the number of disappearances. So about the same number of dissidents met a horrible fate, it was just done within the confines of Kerlian law. Kerlile under Viallamando was still pretty isolationist, and it was in 1992 that the Kerlian civil war began. Kerlile would likely support LOM over Bjeorg as they dislike patriarchal religion and would view LOM as more likely to acquiesce to their cause of greater women's rights.

In terms of involvement, they would publicly do no more than make statements, but if it's something you're interested in, I could have one of the sleeper agents from the Aurora Programme do something. Perhaps along the lines of gathering information on Bjeorg and anonymously giving it to Maximusian forces, if it would benefit Kerlile - or carrying out some kind of act of sabotage.

When I get the next post up you will certainly be able to make a statement as Kerlile of Lauchenoiria or both should you feel so inclined. I am also happy to chat with you (via DMs) on how to integrate any sabotage/destabilization into the plot. Point being, if you want to get involved, I am sure we can sort something out.

Depending on whether Zamastan gets involved in the conflict, we could see a young Anya Bishop having a conversation with her father about the war, we could see Foley Sakzi commanding soldiers or fighting in the infantry.. there’s a lot that could happen. I'm excited to see how this goes.

A cameo from Bishop is more than welcome. In a lot of respects this will be like a prequel to the rest of our RPs so anyone wishing to slide in a 19 year old who will eventually become significant in their nation is welcome.

After I get this next post out I will open the floor to everyone. This post will be the last of exposition. I will explain how you can get involved after the post is...well...posted.

Bishop would be 7 years old in 1991, maybe the cameo would be her speaking with her parents about the conflict or one of her school mates' parents fighting overseas, etc. Interesting to see how a future President sees foreign policy as a kid

I was generalizing about 19 years old. You can fit Bishop in any way you see fit (so long as it vaguely pertains to the plot). That is totally up to you.

I'm thinking about writing a thing for the RP about a police operation in Zamastan right after the plane crash. Nothing as of now that ties anything into the RP yet obviously, since I'm not sure how Zamastan is tying into it yet. But the police operation would involve arresting a group of people on bomb-making charges. Maybe that can be used later in the RP, so this would essentially be a foreshadowing. What do you think, LOM?

Please do send me a DM. Bjeorg would love mercenaries and they have money. This could be a great way to integrate your nation into the plot.

To anyone with any side-plots that may tie in to the central plot at a later point: You might as well start setting them up now. It’s better to have loose ends at the end than to try to jam something in (can say from experience) with no setup midway through the RP.

Zam: I had a great Idea regarding this side-plot you are creating. I would love to DM to work things out.

I second what LOM says about the loose ends. I still have some from the end of our civil war that can be tied up in future RPs.

I’m thinking I can at least have a Kerlian Aurora father information even if she does nothing else. And I’d like to have some young versions of some of my characters show up too. I’ll try and post something after Wednesday!

The situation has really heated up after the most recent post. Feel free to have your government's comment/plan for action based on this last post. The interview was broadcasted nationally and it wouldn't take long for news to reach most head's of state.

I've already posted President Cassious Castovia's personal thoughts in regards to the event, I'm currently working on his press release. I think it will include an official statement from the Zamastanian government as well as their plans for action: diplomatic or otherwise militarily
