Olympic Committee 2018/2019 (OOC Planing)

Olympic Committee

Establishment
The IDU Nation of Libertas Omnium Maximus establishes this Olympic Committee for the exclusive purpose of organizing and running the IDU Olympics, which shall be held at a time that the Committee sees fit. The Committee may select its own members with no minimum or maximum required memberships. The committee shall operate independant of The IDUSA, the IAC, or any other IDU affiliated organizations.

Chair (President)
The Olympic Committee shall be presided over by a CHAIR, who is elected by a popular vote of all member-states. The CHAIR holds no more power than any other member-state aside from its ability to cast a tie breaking vote on any deadlocked matter and to accept new member-states. It is also the chairs duty to make an itinerary which should be addressed in its intirety before the Committee sessions conclude. Any member-state may call for a Chair election so long as it is at least 30 days after the most recent election. Until an initial vote is held, Libertas Omnium Maximus will be serving as the CHAIR.

Voting Procedure
Any member-state may propose a Solution addressing one or more topics on the itinerary or to elect a new Chair. This motion need not be seconded however. If it is not discarded, the chair should make an anouncement notifying the committee of this vote and giving them a minimum of 120 hours to vote yay or nay. If the motion receives a majority of the votes cast, it is adopted as a Solution. A solution may be overridden at anytime through standard voting procedure.

Conclusion
In the event that all items on the itinerary have been addressed (via Solutions), the Committee should be adjourned. Each itinerary item is not limited to one Solution, but as many as the Chair deems necessary. The Chair may wish to step down to hold a vote for next session’s chair at this time. If applicable, the host nation or session Chair should open signups for the Olympiad at this time.

Re-convening
The committee shall reconvene at a time the (new, if applicable) Chair sees fit at least 2 months after the conclusion of the prior Olympiad. Membership shall carry over as shall status however, Host City bid/no bid will reset at this time.

Applications Applications are Closed

All nations wishing to join the committee must agree to these terms and submit the following application:

Nation Name: [Fill]
Is it a Puppet: [Yes/No]

It is as simple as that folks.

NOTE: It has come to my attention that "Delegate" may be associated with Learal, the NS Delagate. I am referring to your IC Delegate, a single IC person who would represent your nation in the IC Olympic Committee. These names will most likely only be needed for official IC notices and for any IDU Olympiad Wiki pages.

Host Cities Host has been decided

Any IDU nation, regardless of standing, size, or demographics, may apply to have any of their cities host whatever Olympics are upcoming (be it 1st, 3rd, 42nd, etc.). After they have verbally stated that they wish to enter their city as a host city, this committee shall scrutinize the city in question to be sure that it can realistically support the athletes, coaches, and tourist that will come as a result of Olympics. All cities deemed "acceptable" (which I imagine will be most entries) will be voted on by the Olympic Committee. The city with the most votes will host the upcoming Olympics.

Proposed Host Cities:

Tofino, Zamastan - Formally withdrew their application via Forum post: 4/10/19

Central, Shuell - Host: Confirmed 4/16/19

Eternity, Gardavasque - Formally withdrew their host application via Regional Message Board post: 3/29/19

Mönusÿnthys, Gladysythia - Application rejected due to inactivity: 4/16/19

Moskva, Trive 38 - Formally withdrew their host application via direct communication method: 3/24/19

Host City: Central, Shuell

Thank you for taking the initiative, and I'm also liking the fact there's a new sub-board for sport on the forum. May many Olympiads and Sporting Events be hosted in many years to come.

Thanks for heading this event! I've been looking forward to large global games like Olympics for a while and I'm hopeful and gleaming with anticipation for what this could hold.

Accepted! I will add you and New Lusitania to the list when I get the chance. In the mean time, we should probably get started on brainstorming scorinators. Learal found a dispatch with quite a few. I will see if I can dig it up. In the meantime, everyone keep your eyes peeled.

I can tell you that usually Nationstates competitions use Xkoronate as their scorinator. There's a dispatch by some nation called The Democratic Judgeship of Nullarni which lists a couple of scorinators, including Xkoronate.
I've used it once or twice, but I'm not the best person to ask how to use all of its' functions, however it's the most complete one for the job, specially if you are going for an Olympiad

No worries. I haven't been all to active lately either.

I am thinking that, since many scorinators are sport dependent, it may make sense to generate a sports list before deciding on one or more scorinators.

My list would probably consist of something like 30 events - 15 for women and 15 for men to keep things fair and equal. We aren't going to have the participation to run all 300+ events so we will just have to pick the most popular.

Obviously:

-Swiming (m/w 100m, 50m, 500m?)
-Track & Field events (hurdles, 5000 m [my rl specialty], 500m)
-Basketball?
-Shooting events
-Gymnastics?

Anything else???

That's a good list. What you've got so far is the base line of most summer Olympics. If we are looking for others, here are some that I'd like to possibly see as well:

-Diving
-Weightlifting
-Volleyball
-Tennis/Badminton
-Cycling
-Boxing

Also, is this going to be a summer-Olympics style event or is it a multi-seasonal/biome event and also add winter sports? Here are some of those we could add:

-Alpine Skiing
-Bobsled
-Curling
-Figure skating
-Ski jumping
-Snowboarding

Presumably it would be summer exclusive but that is honestly up to the collective committee, not me, to decide. As of right now, it is 20% up to you.

Cool beans. I'm good with either or, and I'm presuming that if this Olympiad goes well we'll have more in the future where we can expand our horizons even more.

Also, any estimation on when we'll know the host-city?

Not until we have "scorinator method" and "sports list" down. Also, per the charter at the top of this page, Host City will be determined by popular vote.

Since we're at brainstorm phase... I'd like to add Surfing and Skateboarding as cool 21st Century suggestions. Secondly, who wouldn't love to watch Olympic Thumb Wrestling?

Sure to Skateboarding and Surfing. Personally, I would find a Thumb resulting competition worthless. It isn't ultimately my decision but I think we should stick to the basics.

Realistically I think that surfing and such will be far too subjective an/or boring for people to want to enter. We should stick to the basics.

I feel like Gymnastics would be easy to simulate because we can just use a randomizer to generate the score, and then we could modify it based on the difficulty of the routine selected, the age of the gymnast, or some other factors. I think gymnastics should certainly be in. It is an iconic sport in Olympics and may result in some of the bast RPing.

We can use leaguesimulator.com for basketball and soccer/football if we want to run them.

I am still working on everything else.
