Bonalandan Institute of International Collaboration (various RP planning)
#1

This thread will be used for OOC planning and idea sharing for any RPs relating to international projects in which Bonalando is pivotal.

General idea is to help everyone know how best to be involved while maintaining consistency within IC thread.

In the spirit of open play I'd like RPs to be pretty open, however I think it worth using this thread as a place for those keen on contributing to establish how they intend to contribute. This should help to reduce undesirable bumps and unnecessary awkwardness in the RPs.

Setting:
As part of the agreement between La Komunumado de Bonalando (Commonwealth of Bonalando) and United New England on the founding of a Bonalandan Free City about the UNE colony of Diamant, Bonalando has offered to assist with research into the nature and origin of some phosphorescent pebbles that have been found along the coast of Diamant in the UNE area.

Bonalando is thus providing funding for and recruiting internationally a research team to lead the investigation.

IDU nations are invited to 'volunteer researchers' with specialisms in:
-Geology.
-Soil Science.
-Chemoluminescence (incl. Bioluminescence).
-Radiochemistry.

How to join:
For now just state which specialists you intend to play, whether they'll be moving to the Bonalandan research centre on Diamant or working from the national labs etc.
Specialists should have names and some vaguely appropriate sounding qualification. For added flavour it may be worth knowing what their fine focus has previously been. I.e. if they are a specialist in Bioluminescence do they specialise in 'Comparative studies of bioluminescent enzymes' or 'The ecological roles of bioluminescence.' If they are specialists in chemoluminescence, is their focus on 'occurrence and decay of luminescent isotopes'. Hopefully that will help people to chime in creative ways in character and consistently.

Assume study sites are in UNE or neighbouring unclaimed territory, unless another nation opens a study site within their borders.

Ask further questions for clarity.

Your ideas look good to me! Do you want us to apply here or in the IC thread?

As UNE is integrally involved due to hosting research sites and presumably being a founding partner of the research team maybe you should add your 'nations voice' to the international invitation.
It's probably worth us establishing a few protocols here before proper play kicks off. I think all specialists should be listed here, to see which parties are in play. I may even attempt to create and host a factsheet on Bonalando's page so people can check there without having to trawl a thread.

I imagine recruitment will be our first stage. I'll try and be (relatively) quick on green flagging admissions to RP but for now let's do basic brief proposals here, obnce green flagged people should introduce their researchers over on RP.

My nations scientific resources are at your disposal as well as potential funding. Hopefully get round to adding some decent scientific teams and projects as well.

A team of grad students from IUST (Iustitia University for Sciences and Technology) would love to head down to diament to check things out. They are all geologists and have varying field experience. Don't expect more than 20-25 of them though.

This is all shaping up nicely.

I look forward to the grad students' contributions. They will no doubt be a valuable asset and Bonalando would be delighted if some of them achieved doctorates through the course of such international cooperation. Such colaboration can have lasting affects on the spirit of goodwill between nations.

I wholeheartedly agree. Thank you for taking them!

The Interstellar Commonwealth of United New England will send four teams of researchers to live on Diamant, in the main settlement of Solumina. There will be one team for each of the specializations.

Team Geology's head researcher is Sarah Alcott of Brown University, who has studied the molecular structure of meteorites.

Team Soil Science's head researcher is Oluwadayo Akande of Dartmouth University, who has studied the relationship between the geological composition of soil and its ability to sustain agriculture.

Team Chemiluminescence's head researcher is John Zaharia of Harvard University, who has studied the decomposition of bioluminescent organisms as it relates to rock formation.

Team Radiochemistry's head researcher is Hiroka Imai of Yale University, who has studied the persistence of radioactivity across mineral types.

Realise this is a bit on the slow burn side of things but the Dezreik are looking at setting up a multinational center of excellence in science and technology so would be seeking further funding from projects like this.
Currently it has extensive analytical services available (think Magnetic Resonance, chromatography, Mass and light based spectroscopy, crystallography) but would like to set up a new HE light source (think Large Hadron Collider) and a new stellar observatory within the country to further increase services available.
Head of Scientific Analytics is Dr Thomas Awdry - A Chemistry and Physics based background with a broad range of experience and expertise, supported by Dr Clara Johnston (Geology), Dr Percival Viridian (Biological and Medical) and Dr Annabel Ffarquhar (Astrophysics and Cosmology).
Bare with me as I flesh out some of these ideas and equally if anyone would be interested in adding specific labs to the National (hoping for international but not pushing it at this stage) Dezreik Scientific Centre of Excellence feel free.

United New England would be interested in setting up a medical biotech lab in the Scientific Centre.

Nice - I'll stick out a quick press release
