Idu Football Championship 2008
#1

Well, looks like it's time to go ahead!

First of all, we have ten teams that have expressed interest, plus Baranxtu's dependences. As twelve would work better, I would like to invite Cikoutimi and Otea to send their own teams. Does anyone have any objections? Please note, if you have not already posted interest and do still want to participate, now is the time to pipe up! We can kick Cikoutimi and Otea out if someone else wants in before the start.

We will divide the teams into three groups, allocated randomly:

Group A:
1 Cachette de Lions
2 Sidh Ohn
3 Groonlo
4 Gerainia

Group B:
1 Otea
2 Baranxtu
3 Saidercray
4 Groot Gouda

Group C:
1 Antrium
2 Malabra
3 Jagera
4 Cikoutimi

The first round will be a round robin within the groups. The schedule is as follows:
Playing schedule:
Thursday, August 14: 1 vs 2 & 3 vs 4
Saturday, August 16: 1 vs 3 & 2 vs 4
Tuesday, August 19: 1 vs 4& 2 vs 3
Wednesday, August 20: Tiebreaker if necessary.

Then will come the knockout round. There will be eight spots in the quarter finals. The two highest ranking teams in each group will automatically gain a spot. The two best third ranked teams will also qualify. Rankings are based on points, then goals. 3 points will be awarded for each win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. If two teams are tied within their group, the result of the game between them will decide. If this was a tie, or if two teams in different groups are tied for the last spot, a tiebreaker will take place on Wednesday, August 21 to decide which team gets in.

Championship Schedule:
Quarter Final:
Thursday, August 21:
1. A 1st ranked vs Second 3rd ranked (not from A group)
2. B 2nd ranked vs C 1st ranked
3. Best 3rd ranked (not from B group) vs B 1st ranked
4. C 2nd ranked vs A 2nd ranked

Semi Final:
Saturday, August 23:
1. Winner 1 vs Winner 4
2. Winner 2 vs Winner 3

Final and Consolation Final:
Monday, August 25:
Winner 1 vs Winner 2 for 1st place
Loser 1 vs Loser 2 for 3rd place

Note on dates: For those of you who are in GMT or further east, the dates may end up being one later than posted, as I'll be generally posting results around 12am to 4am GMT (6-10pm my local time). Be patient if you don't see things posted.

Some notes:

Venues:

Jagera will be using this tournament to showcase facilities in our recently added eastern territories (formerly Ceorana). The only exception will be several games played by Group C in Himin, in the Nor?lands.

Group A will play in Stormdale, at Cooper Stadium (75 000 capacity) and Cloud Field (60 000 capacity). Group B will play in Wasport, at Jongo Green (63 000 capacity) and Intrepid Pitch (60 000 capacity). Group C will play in Squamouth at Myrshaulk Stadium (55 000 capacity), and in Himin at Anorturspitch (72 000 capacity).

Cooper Stadium will also host match 1 of the quarterfinals, match 1 of the semifinals, and the finals. Jongo Green will host match 2 of the quarterfinals, match 2 of the semifinals, and the consolation final. Intrepid Pitch will host match 3 of the quarterfinals. Myrshaulk Satium will host match 4 of the quarterfinals.

Jagera will be paying all expenses for transportation of teams between venues, as well as costs for the teams and their support staff to come to Jagera for the tournament and to return home again at the end. If anyone has already purchased transportation, please present receipts to the local office of the Ministry of Finance to be compensated.

Ticket sales: 10% of the tickets are reserved for Jageran spectators. An additional 44% are reserved for the rest of the national teams (4% each). The remaining 46% are free for anyone to purchase.

Team Names/Rosters: The sooner you can submit them, the better. Really, all that is needed is a team name, but rosters are fun, too, if you can give them. Either post in this thread and/or post on the Wiki page.

On that note: Wiki page is now up: IDU Football Championship, including info on previous IDUFCs.

The M?n? Swords are the Antrian national champions this year, so they will represent us this year.

After looking up how many people are on a soccer team because I know absolutely nothing about competitive soccer, here is the roster:
If someone could tell me how many of each category of player you have on a team, I could add things like "forward", "midfielder", etc. If it matters.

??ndr? Beaumanoire
Aristide Rondelet (goalkeeper)
V?naŋg? ?ſlar
Řeav? Ttecc?
M?rv?rn? W???n?m
?tienne M?ddỳc
Br?n?r K?lǿnd?
S?rh?l P?ron
F?r?nd? L?rm?n
S?net K?r?st?
Antor? V?no

Sorry for all the scary accents, the language in that area has a lot of letters. Anglicize as necessary.

======OFFICIAL NOTICE FROM THE JAGERAN IDUFC COMMITTEE======

Some preliminary incidents of violence have been reported following Jagera's massive defeat and non-qualification for the quarter finals today.

We strongly recommend all foreign team members and staff stay inside for the duration of the night, as we cannot guarantee your safety if you go outside. Mob activity is expected. This is especially important for the Rhinos of Malabra, as there are strong feelings against them in this crowd.

Armed guards will be posted to all team lodgings for security. They will not prevent you from leaving, should you wish to, but you are highly dissuaded from doing so.

On behalf of Jagera, we apologize for the night that is likely to come, and we hope these precautions are unnecessary.

Additional security will also be provided at Thursday's quarter final matches.

 FINAL RESULTS!

First of all, the results you've all been waiting for... will come second! We'll start with the consolation match.

Wasport's Jongo Green was charged with excitement as the Glastiri and K?tanne Drappen filed out onto the field for the third place matchup. Cikoutimi opened the scoring early as Joul Barisse worked the ball past goalkeeper Leith'malah. This was quickly followed by a second goal by Seoti Tũma-Vraŋa. The Glastiri seemed to welcome the end of the half as a time to regroup.

Cikoutimi also seemed to regroup, as in the opening minutes Toume Camaric put one past Leith'malahto bring the score to 3 - 0. This seemed to be the catalyst the Glastiri needed to turn their game around. Within minutes, after several close calls, Pacluahd scored against Cikoutimi's Takoume Kourj. The score sat at 3 - 1 until the last five minutes of the game, when Treansaor added another point for the Glastiri. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late, and Cikoutimi's K?tanne Drappen took the match 3 - 2.

Now for the championship results:

Cooper Stadium, in Stormdale, was packed to the rafters in anticipation of the final game of the IDUFC. Reports had scalpers selling tickets at nearly 1400% face value, but that's besides the point.

The Malabra Rhinos and Groonlo faced off for what promised to be an epic game. Both sides played off each other well for the first half hour of play. Then, in a dramatic reversal, Malabran players cleared the ball downfield towards the Groonlo goal, and opened scoring at 32:45. Their lead couldn't last, however, as Groonlo responded with a goal within minutes. Both teams seemed to bide their time until the half wound down.

Early into the second half, the Rhinos reestablished their lead, bringing the score to 2 - 1. Groonlo's defenders rallied and prevented several other scoring chances from being realized as goals. The Groonlo offence then took over, and tied up the game at 67:23. The two sides began to skirmish back and forth, neither gaining a decisive scoring opportunity.

As the second half wound down, the two teams looked to be psyching themselves up for extra time. This turned out to be unnecessary, though, as an outstanding player decided to move the ball from his foot into the goal. As the final seconds ticked down, the ball sailed over the goal line, and the game ended, 3 - 2. The fans of the winning team erupted in cheers, as the losing team began grumbling about being robbed.

Oh, wait. I didn't say who won. Predictions? I like the suspense.

If you skipped to the end to see who won, you're no fun. The winners of the 2008 IDUFC are the Malabra Rhinos, with a final score of 3 - 2 over Groonlo.

Thanks for participating, everyone! See you again next year! And congratulations to the winning team, semifinal teams, quarterfinal teams, and just everyone for making it out! Dreams were made and smashed, and the whole thing came to an obvious conclusion. And I still haven't gotten over that stupid 5 - 0 loss. Arrgh.
#22

Wahhhhhhhhoooooooooooooo! GOOD JOB RHINOS!! :booze:
#23

And excellent analysis, Jagera, and thanks for hosting! I didn't cheat and skip to the end. Smile
#24

Congrats with the win!
#25

Congratulations, Malabra! Big Grin
