Nation Names?
#1

I've been curious about this ever since I joined this game so long ago, but why did we each choose the name that our nation goes by?
Since I'm asking the question I'll also answer it for myself, The name Pagemaster is an old nickname of mine from grade school. I was given the name because I read way too much, the friends who gave me the name got it from an old movie. So naturally I chose Pagemaster when I founded the Commonwealth.

I'll speak to both of my nations. First, Jonquiere-Tadoussac. Jonquiere is the name of a city in Qu?bec where I spent a couple months in 2003 learning French. Tadoussac is a town about 200km from there on the St. Lawrence River which we had visited. I wanted to use that type of name because I fas founding a French-speaking, Quebec style society. When I could not found a nation with either name, I threw them together.

As for Jagera, I've used Jager as a screen name where I can for quite a while, which was taken from a character in Harry Turtledove's Worldwar series of books (Colonel Heinrich J?ger), whom I found to be quite genial, despite being a Nazi. *shrug*

I completely made it up. I just thought of it and then I thought it sounded like the name of a country, so I used it.

I wish I had a fun story to go along with it...

EDIT: I recently found a map I drew probably about 8 years ago (I loved to draw maps) with a country labeled 'Antria', so I guess the name has been lingering somewhere in my mind for a long time

When I was playing some other game, I wanted to make something like Peacetopia. That's too unoriginal, so flowers popped into my head for some reason. I could only think of Gerainiums, so you can guess the rest..

Domnonia(or Dumnonia) was a British kingdom in the early 1st millenium and is credited in part with unifying all of Britain against the Saxon hordes. It failed, in the end of course. It is also the Kingdom that most Arthur scholars place the supposed King. Growing up, I couldn't get enough of the old maps I'd find in Encyclopedias and Atlas' at the library.

Ferveo is a rough translation of the Latin for "anger" or "rage". I thought it sounded pleasant, and decided to use it. Nothing special. No reason why "anger" or "rage" specifically. What can I say, I was tired...

I coined "Grosseschnauzer" as my first NS nation as my RL nic for the internet has used "schnauzers" as all or part of it going back 15 years. "Grosse" is sometimes used in German to mean "great" or "large" so....

All of my puppets either use "schnauzer" as part of the name, or is the formal name of one or more of the schnauzers I've had over the years. When you llok at the schnauzerlands on the regional maps, almost all of the cities are taken from RL Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. A few also reflect the names of schnauzers that have been in my family over the years (and all of the schnauzers have had German names!)

I wanted a 'non-human' nation for arguing the case that rights granted through NSUN resolutions should apply to all sapients rather than just to humans. The use of an example about "The right to arm bears" in the rule against joke proposals inspired me to try 'Armed Bears' as a name, and when that was unavailable I simply -- as you can plainly see -- reversed the order of the two words...
