Chair Announcement

So, What’s Next?

Congratulations again to Shuell on his uncontested victory. A firm congratulations, too, to you all for voting in such a timely manner and for progressing this session to its final stage. We have made it nearly to the end!

So, what stands in our way of calling an adjournment and starting the Olympics? Unfortunately, the answer is “logistics.”

We still need to (this is in order of most to least pressing):

1. Get the sports list finalized and voted on
2. Figure out the approximate timeframe of the Events
3. Actualy formulate signups (do we have to have athletes “qualify?” Who gets the wild cards, if applicable for any tournament style event, etc.)

Don’t let this get you down, we are very nearly there! Hang in, hold on, and we’ll see you at the games!

For the record, I would've voted yay if it hadn't closed so soon. Best wishes to the Shuell Central area on hosting the first IDU Olympiad.

1. Well, as much as a very diverse, life-like Olympics be very cool to have in the region, past hosts of the NS Olympiad will tell you it makes scorinating very complicated due to the sheer number of events. The size of one compared to the other means that we should stick to the basic, more traditional ones first. Aquatics, Athletics are practically guaranteed, because they're basically the main events.

2. Question: When you say time frame, does that mean we're doing them separately, one by one? If not, then the usual time is around two to three weeks, pretty much like a RL Olympiad.

3. I usually say how it's done on the forum as a guideline. In this case, as far as I know, there's never been one way. The most recent, as Laeral (our only entrant for Republica) will also tell you, had a limit on the number of people you had on each separate event. After entering them, with their respective skill levels (for the xkoranate application), you had to ensure that the mean skill level of the entire committee was under 50 (on a 0-100 scale). If you search for the sign-up thread there's a link to a sheet to fill it in, or, you could do it on Excel (but I'm terrible at Excel). It's a bit of a complicated process, and time consuming if you wanted a big Committee - time was literally the only reason I didn't enter.

Hope this was minimally helpful in the process to a successful first IDU Olympics

Interestingly enough, I did my homework and looked at the Forum Olympics back in January or February. Like you said, the way they do it is certainly a way to do the signups that would be very easy. It would also mean that users could avoid having to deal with an actual “qualifiers.” I would encourage that type of method for signups.

As for duration, I figure it should last IC about 2-3 weeks. That doesn’t mean it has to last 2-3 weeks OOC. Scorinating that much stuff takes time so I might encourage aloting about 45 days for the whole event. Yes, presumably each event would go side by side. Scorinating in order sounds lame.

I feel like the actual sports list should be left up to Shuell. However many sports he can scorinate, he should scorinate

So, this committee's membership is now fixed (see the second most recent host announcement on Pg 3 of this thread). That means that no-one new can join it. Why? Because we are just about wrapped here. What you can do, however, is join the olympics when the start in a couple of months. Diplomats are both given the opportunity and are encouraged to complete.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter! Now, Back to Business!

As I said, we have cleared the largest hurdles of settting up an Olympics! This is a very good thing and everyone deserves a high five for their hard work.

First things first, I have officially isolated the final topics we need to cover before opening (compiled from this thread’s thoughts and general musings).

1. Confirm Shuell’s sports list (I would like to allot no longer than until May 4th for general debate over the sports list)
2. Decide a qualifying strategy (be it NLA’s .50 mean skill level plan or some other)
3. Timeline (this is mostly shuell’s call but maybe putting it when most 14-22 year olds have final exams, ie, late May, is a bad idea)

Anyone with thoughts, questions, comments, ideas, concerns, etc. Voice them at this Time!

Edit: If this wasn’t absolutely clear from the start, the games will be held on these forums. Not the NS ones. Anyone with acces to this forum, therefore, can enter and participate. That includes diplomats, citizens, officers, and anyone else.

I'll probably have this start in June-ish. More free time for me and other 14-22 year-olds.

We could possibly put the qualifying strategy up to a vote?

Sure. You are referring to the mean score=50% plan?
