My belief is that some philosophies are usually held together. In this case someone who would respect the environment would also respect life, and therefore respect others who might be different but equal. Being hommophbic is not respectful so that combination is confusing to me. For example, I wouldn't expect someone who was racially prejudiced to be interested in protecting the environment. At least I would be very surprised if they were interested in it.
There are much more confusing marriages of opinion. For instance, why are people who are anti-abortion also usually pro death penalty?
