The Kaijan Affair
#98

Every meeting of the Cabinet of Brooke Weasley would begin with a prayer, a formality of what was mostly a government of Sanctarian Catholics. Abraham Wallace, a Trinitarian and Paul Zhong, a Minjian would just sit there as the others listened to the words of Father Ernesto Collins.
“Thank you, Father,” Press Secretary Carolina Morales said as he opened up the day’s agenda. Carolina was an overly, happy, almost artificial woman who looked out of place in the office of a President with sub 20% approval ratings. She was Brooke Weasley’s goddaughter and had been born in Weasley's first term back in the 90s.
“General Galvez, updates from the front line” she said, with a much too happy smile.
“We held several raids yesterday. Around 250 arrests so far this week. Several dozen were wanted terrorists”
“Great!” Secretary Morales said as the rest of the room looked half-satisfied.
“Good, I assume you have given those numbers over to the….uh” President Weasley said, her voice faltering.
“The social media team” The Foreign Affair Advisor added
“Yes. We need to let the people know this operation is working, we can win this war” President Weasley said.
“Of course, Madame President. We have been working with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prosecute, don’t even worry”
“I won’t” President Weasley said
“Well, on to the next area” Secretary Morales said
“Yes, Madame President. I spoke with my counterpart on the Legislative side and they are upset with the cuts to the Forest Service” The Agriculture, Land and Sea Management Secretary said.
“Tell them to go to the woods in Kaijan and wait until they get shot,” President Weasley added with a tone which suggested genuine seriousness.
“Uh, we need a more concise response to both them and the public, Madame President”
“No, I think Madame President is correct,” Wallace added. The rest of the room locked toward him
“That’s why I like you, Wallace. The people elected me President for a reason. Those tree huggers across the street can deal with it” President Weasley said.
Secretary Morales winked at Wallace.

The rest of the meeting continued, with the President making several blunders. Thankfully there was no media involved or it could have been a real nightmare. The entire staff of President House had essentially been playing a game of staying within the good graces of the President while also hiding the worst of Madame President’s state. Doctors had publicly claimed she was in good health, but they had only done physical checks, not mental ones. Everyone, even Secretary Morales there were slim re-election chances and there had been talk across the Conservative Party leadership around who could replace her. Wallace hoped Weasley could be convinced quickly to drop out so someone more qualified could take over and have several months to make themselves distinct.
