Vote: Natural Disaster Act
#10

GrosseschnauzerApr 24 2005, 02:46 PM You would have thought being a more general resolution this would have outpolled the Tsunami resolution, but that was not the case. Wierd.

Now that this is out of the way, can we discuss whether there needs to be a resolution on building standards that applies to public buildings and that mat be applied to other buidings to cotribute to emergency preparedness for all types of natural disasters, including tsunami? [/quote]
I'm not surprised ... as the total votes cast this time were nearly 16,000 compared to the 18,000 that the Warning System got. I think that two things are currently happening in NationStates:

1) political players are running to a new free web game called Patricity or something like that (there is a forum dedicated to it on the Celdonia forums),

2) voter fatique ... even though we only addressed this in Jan., there are some people whom are probably clamouring for something a bit different.

I'm still very happy with the show of support. In all the regions I've been advocating for this, nations (players) have been 100% supportative of this resolution, and honestly viewed this as a logical extension to the Tsunami resolution.

I've love to start work on the next resolution, and I think an appropriate working title is "Universal Building Code". But I'd like to do something a bit more unconventional with this idea ... I'd like those of us interested in this to use the new "NDAO" and TEWC" to conduct some surveys in nation states asking nations to list what types of natural disasters impact their governments. NationStates polls can accept different answers.

We can combine that info with Eurosalvia's "Tech Level" surveys to get some good basis for the resolution.

Personally, I'd like the UN UBC to be limited to schools, hospitals, police stations, and fire stations
