With the winding down of Xiomera's presence in Auria, the mercenary corporation CSSC found itself in a bit of a dilemma. The Aurian mission had been highly profitable for the Xiomeran PMSC. But with the end of the mission, and new contracts relatively sparse due to certain nations' irritation with Xiomera, something new was needed to keep the company's bottom line profitable. Also, mercenaries without work tend to become irritable and bored. They then tend to turn that irritation and boredom on each other, and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity. Thousands of CSSC mercenaries were now back in Xiomera, and needed something to do.
CSSC needed a new contract to keep its coffers filled and to keep its soldiers happy. The Imperial government was more than happy to help with that, as part of Operation Tiquinpopolozque. The numbers of Xiomeran "volunteers" helping the Golden Blade with their attacks were starting to dwindle, as average Xiomerans began to realize that possibly getting blown up or shot was not anywhere as romantic as the war propaganda the Ministry of Information produced made it seem. And as the conflict in Huenya ground on, the numbers of domestic "freedom fighters" was likewise dwindling.
But thanks to the CSSC mercenaries that were now back home, there was a ready pool of additional people for Calhualyana to throw into Huenya to destabilize the country.
So on the day that many around the world celebrated Halloween, the Empress had no treat for Huenya, but yet another of her tricks.
Thousands of "former" mercenaries would stream into Huenya, aiming for Chuaztlapoc. They were, allegedly, demobilized "volunteers" of the same sort that had already been entering Huenya from Xiomera. However, those civilian "volunteers" hadn't had years of military training, recent combat experience, and enough hardware to equip a smallish country's army behind them. The CSSC mercenaries posing as "volunteers" did.
The Huenyan defense forces had been making progress against the insurgency, but facing CSSC would prove to be an entirely different challenge. Eventually, critical defensive lines would buckle, leaving the CSSC "volunteers" a clear path to the Huenyan capital. Thousands of Golden Blade fighters had been regrouping and re-arming near the capital as well, preparing to make a second and final push to seize Chuaztlapoc and end the Huenyan government once and for all.
