As the siege of Chuaztlapoc continued, a game of "two steps forward, one step back" commenced for the Huenyan defenders. Huenyan reinforcements were able to gain control of the embassy quarter, preventing any further embassy attacks. They managed to repel Golden Blade forces attacking the Lauchenoirian embassy, but with significant losses. They were also able to capitalize on the Eirian bombing run and engage Golden Blade forces long enough for the Eirians to successfully evacuate their embassy. They surrounded the Acadian embassy as well, cutting it off from further Golden Blade reinforcements.
They were also able to push Golden Blade forces away from the Palace of the Four Directions and the Tecpancalli Tonaltzintli. But that meant opening up weaknesses in other areas of the capital, which the Blade was quick to exploit. The SIPS headquarters, which was not strongly defended, had to be abandoned. The Golden Blade were quick to destroy vital records inside the building which were used by SIPS to counter ethnic Xiomeran extremism. The Defense Department complex now became the center of repeated assaults as well, as the Blade were determined to get to the Huenyan leaders inside and execute their decapitation plan once and for all.
One victory that the Golden Blade was quick to celebrate - and put online in propaganda videos on social media - was the overrunning of Xomaxtli Hill. While the terrorists were furious that Yauhmi had been able to escape, taking over her estate and burning it to the ground was enough of a victory for now. If they had their way, the Green Zone and all of its buildings would be next to burn. And they had thousands more bodies to throw at that goal, with more Xiomeran "volunteers" streaming into the city alongside the Blade's fighters.
From the now embattled Defense Department complex, Texōccoatl and the others could only watch the video as Xomaxtli Hill burned. And now Fort Huacopec, the major linchpin in the capital's defenses, was also under siege. Much of Chuaztlapoc, in fact, was a no-go zone. Huenyan forces from other battlefronts were having to be pulled to the capital, which left weaknesses that the Xiomerans were all too happy to exploit.

Tihanang, western Huenya
The Tihanang district, on the border of the Necatli and Itotemoc regions of Huenya, had long been a hotbed of ethnic Xiomeran separatism. Much like Xonacatlán in eastern Huenya, it was led by the Golden Blade and others who wanted no part of Huenya. Since the siege of Chuaztlapoc had begun a week earlier, the Blade had been preparing. They had consolidated several districts under their control, with Tihanang as their "capital". The pullback of Huenyan forces to try to save the capital had certainly helped them consolidate their gains.
In Tihanang, they held a "vote" much like the one which had been held in Xonacatlán. The vote, as expected, favored separation from Huenya and joining Xiomera as a new province.
Three days later, the Imperial Parliament in Tlālacuetztla voted unanimously to accept Tihanang as the latest Xiomeran province. That night, five thousand elite Xiomeran paratroopers landed in Tihanang to assert this new claim. Calhualyana knew she had to act that quickly. When the news that Haesan, aided by Sanctaria, would be boosting Huenyan air defenses was announced, the Empress knew that she had a narrow window to launch uncontested air operations. And she took that window.
It was "Western Xiomera" round two. And as Calhualyana replayed Leah Stendē's speech in her palatial office, she chuckled to herself. If Chuaztlapoc somehow manages to survive and I don't decapitate Huenya as planned, I may not regain my entire empire as you say, Stendē. But I will surely regain a piece of it. One piece at a time is better than nothing at all. One piece at a time, or all at once....it shall all be the same in the end.
