The Embassy of Lao Sansong in Huenya was a sleek narrow post-modern building its ornate garden and Arikata shire stood out from the simple architecture of Chuaztlapoc. Nishioka Katsuro didn't have the roll traditional of many embassies, a Preist/Gardner tending to small plots of green between the high iron fence and the sleek glass of the embassy's offices. While most embassies were places of paperwork and board foreign service officers, the Lao Sansongian embassy was a social establishment. The Sansongian communities were very tight, with almost all children attending the Huenya no Sansongo gakkō or (HNSG) a private K-12 school.
Nishokia has stepped away from his duties to mediate in the small room of the temple he maintained when he heard the first explosion. Before he got up, Nishokia made out a quick prayer to Niwahebi, the protector of gardens. He prayed the attackers would spare at least this sanctuary. As alarms began to ring out through the complex, Nishokia grabbed his katana off the wall. Outside the sanctuary of the temple, the explosions and gunfire were louder, he saw office workers scrambling from the upper floors and to the basement. Nishokia wasn't going to just run by, he ran up to a security guard armed with a more modern weapon and a black Kevlar vest. There were about 15 official "Kaigai Purotekuta" or KP officers on duty.
"Golden Blade has breached the Green Zone, I need you to call HNSG and check their security status, and make sure all the students are accounted for," said the KP officer.
As Nishokia pulled out his phone, the officer asked him "Why the katana? The Xiomerans have more than spears and shields"
"Faith is stronger than any weapon when was the last time you read any of the Book of Raibu?"
"Of course, you Mainliners bring nothing but war how can you even..."
"I can't get a call through I'm heading over there," Nisokia said running outside.
Nisokia hopped in his black Bailey E103 sedan, spreading out of the parking lot once he opened the embassy gate.
The streets of the Green Zone had become devoid of cars quickly, smoke rose from a nearby side street as Nisokia sped by. Just a block from the school, a checkpoint. One singular Golden Blade soldier standing watch over a makeshift line of cars. Nisokia rolled down the tinted window of the Bailey, the soldiers staring back at him. Quickly thinking, Nisokia pulled out his Huenyan language skills.
"Long live the Empire," he said looking the clearly inexperienced insurgent in the eye.
"I'm just a Samurai," he said, pointing to his Katana in the back seat
The soldier seemed to fall for the cultural romanticism and motioned him forward.
Nisokia had attended HNSG almost 15 years ago, back when it was simply the Sansongian School of Chuaztlapoc with only a dozen students in his graduating class. Yet since then the school had quickly outgrown the old brick building and now featured a full sports field and a modern library. He had not been back inside, only occasionally teaching gardening classes on the outdoor field. Walking through the front door, he immediately saw the problem. A group of Golden Blade soldiers were picking through the front offices and questioning the old man, manning the front desk.
Was that Mr Tomio?
Tomio had always been there for him especially when he was bullied for his family's lack of wealth. Tomio always allowed Nisokia to eat lunch with him when he didn't feel like it.
"Hey," Nisokia said before stabbing one of them, taking his gun he shot the other two quickly.
Mr Tomio looked up at him, he had been cowering behind his desk.
"Nisokia..?" he said standing up
"I'm here for the kids"
"I thought you hated this place"
"Honor is first, were all the students?"
"They are in the library, they were attending an author reading"
The halls of HNSG were filled with student work and posters, far from the coldness that Nisokia had once felt here. Turning the corner into the library he saw the entire student body. It had grown significantly, now over 200 or so faces looked back at him. The students were all hiding under tables their teachers crouching behind bookshelves.
"I'm with the embassy," he said
At once the students began to shout out their questions, many simply rambling in fear. He sat down on the carpeted floor by a bank of computers.
"Insurgents have entered the area, yet we are safe here, Mr. Tomio is safe, and if we keep our faith help will be here soon"
