Election coverage: Libertas Omnium Maximus
Brown wins re-election, legislative branch sees major shift
In the recent elections in Libertas Omnium Maximus, President Lucas Brown has won re-election. Maximusian conservatives, however, have lost a significant amount of ground in the legislature to the Progressives. This likely indicates that a more unified left will be able to form in the coming years.
The Party of Freedom suffered a massive electoral defeat, losing all of their seats in both houses to the Christian Union, which is the largest it has ever been. The socialist party also lost a significant number of seats to the Progressives.
Olivia Pierre kidnapping
Nations demand answers, Maximusian government yet to respond
After a video claiming to be released by an unknown Maximusian group showing the daughter of Kerlian Councillor Pauline Pierre being held captive and threatened, the Council of Kerlile accused the Maximusians of contravening the Haven Accords, and demanded her immediate release.
The video, which showed Olivia Pierre being held captive, has caused the Kerlian government to call for an international investigation into the kidnapping. The Council also called for signatories to the Haven Accords, and other nations, to impose economic sanctions or other penalties on Libertas Omnium Maximus until such time as Olivia Pierre is released. The Maximusian government has yet to respond to the accusations.
The government of Milintica also condemned the kidnapping, with both President Matōchmizalo and Prime Minister Tupai Tapihana calling for immediate action in response to the kidnapping.
