Loyalist forces win stunning victory at Chuaztlapoc
The Voice of the People is proud to be the first to be able to break the news (before any other international news outlets) that loyalist Xiomeran forces led by Empress Yauhmi have won a surprise victory at Chuaztlapoc.
One of our reporters was there as the four-day siege of the ancient city of Chuaztlapoc came to an end. Here is the bulletin from our field reporter, Uru Tonga Kerehoma:
[box]The siege of Chuaztlapoc, last holdout of loyalist Xiomeran forces, came to a stunning end today with a loyalist victory over forces under the command of the usurper Emperor Xochiuhue.
A very large army, which we have now identified as the Xiomeran Imperial Army Corps V, had been besieging the city for several days, making slow but steady progress towards their final objective, the great ancient wall surrounding the old quarter of Chuaztlapoc at the center of town. Imperial forces were within the city itself, and within sight of the city wall, when something utterly unexpected happened. A set of Imperial fighters and bombers, which we now know were dispatched from the nearby Yaulhuanan Air Base, were sighted above the city. Loyalist leaders have now informed me that the fighters and bombers were most likely ordered to attack Chuaztlapoc, with orders to bomb the final resistance in the city into final submission with no regard whatsoever for loss of life, or for the irreplaceable and priceless ancient sites and historic treasures of the city.
The planes approached within eyeshot of the city, before abruptly turning away and flying east. A few moments later, a massive series of explosions to the east rocked the earth, being felt even as far away as Chuaztlapoc, five miles away. My earlier broadcast from Chuaztlapoc was interrupted by the explosions. I now know what caused them, thanks to interviews with soldiers from Army Corps V. The planes dispatched from Yaulhuanan instead chose to bomb the headquarters of Army Corps V, in what I have now been informed was their way of informing the Emperor of Xiomera that they had chosen to defect to Yauhmi's side.
With the complete and utter destruction of the Army Corps V headquarters, the Imperial forces clearly felt that they had been freed of the threat of punishment and coercion that had been driving them to participate in Xochiuhue's takeover and stealing of a sovereign nation. In an act of patriotism, the units of Army Corps V have overthrown their officers, eliminated their political officers who were forcing them under duress to commit these crimes, and have since defected as well to the loyalist side.
The siege of Chuaztlapoc is at an end. With the ranks of the loyalist forces now swelling, it is clear to those of us on the scene at Chuaztlapoc that the liberation of Xiomera may be beginning.[/box]
After the victory at Chuaztlapoc, President Matōchmizalo praised both the defenders of the city and those Xiomeran forces who chose to defect to the loyalist side, calling them "the future of Xiomera". The President also praised Milinticans who have been helping with the liberation of Xiomera, and declared that their sacrifice "is the way we are ensuring that Milintica will have a say in the future shaping of Xiomera after this conflict, to ensure that no Xiomeran state ever poses a threat to Milintica again." That statement all but confirms that the Democratic Republic will demand a seat at the table of any future discussions of Xiomera's fate after the war.
Government expresses alarm at Pierre kidnapping
Leaders advise caution, but also demand answers
Milintican leaders expressed alarm at a report today that the daughter of a member of the Council of Kerlile has been kidnapped, and called for answers.
President Matōchmizalo responded to the allegation that unknown Maximusian agents have kidnapped the daughter of Councillor Pauline Pierre with a firm declaration that "Milintica does not support targeting the members of leaders' families". He urged the Maximusian government to "quickly and thoroughly investigate the Kerlian claims" and confirm that Olivia Pierre is not, in fact, being held in Libertas Omnium Maximus.
"Whether this is some faction of the Maximusian government, or some rogue Maximusian citizens acting on their own, kidnapping and detaining an innocent family member of a political leader is clearly unacceptable and, in our estimation, is an act of terrorism. The Democratic Republic of Milintica calls for an immediate and full investigation by the Maximusian government into these claims by the Council of Kerlile, and if Olivia Pierre is being held in their country, for swift action to ensure her safe return to Kerlile and the punishment of those holding her hostage," the President declared.
Prime Minister Tupai Tapihana normally avoids comment on international affairs, as that is part of the President's sphere of responsibilities. However, the Prime Minister did choose to issue a statement of his own today, which essentially backed the President's position. "The office of the Prime Minister of Milintica urges all parties involved to remain calm and avoid jumping to a rush to conclusions in regards to this video. However, we also do urge complete transparency by the Maximusian government and an immediate and full investigation into the claims of the Council of Kerlile. If Olivia Pierre is, in fact, being held prisoner in Libertas Omnium Maximus, the Maximusian government has a responsibility to ensure her safe return home, and that justice is served to those behind her kidnapping."
The Prime Minister also talked briefly with reporters today, reiterating that "family members of political leaders should be off-limits, full stop, period" and that "no party, regardless of their grievances with a political leader, should ever target their children." Prime Minister Tapihana added that "I am normally a man of peace, but if someone threatened one of my three daughters, that would change very quickly."
