Chancellor's Manor Front Gardens, Geminus
3:12 PM, July 13th
The Gardens in front of The Chancellor's Manor are always meticulously kept and trimmed, with a wide variety of aromatic Eirian flowers blossoming down the paths. It would be relaxing to almost anyone, and to Chancellor William Lancaster, it was especially refreshing. The meeting he was just coming home from had run long, and was absolutely mind-numbing. He was looking forward to spending a quiet night with Jake, staying in.
The Solar Guard to his right took obvious displeasure from his slow gait and attention to the flowers, glaring at the floor to avoid looking annoyed. He chuckled, and reluctantly let go of the Blue Rose plant he was smelling and strode a little faster, still at a leisurely pace. "Everyone has to relax sometime, Lieutenant. Even a Chancellor". He paused. "Especially a Chancellor. You should maybe try it sometime".
The Agent looked slightly confused, his face stretching to try to remain neutral, which caused the Chancellor to chuckle some more. "Do you have a favorite flower, Lieutenant? Rose, Davri, maybe a Deltanian Bush?". He pointed to each plant as he listed them off. The agent seemed hesitant to answer, almost embarrassed. "What, you think having a flower isn't 'Manly'? Or that you'll be judged for saying anything?". He gestured around. "Ironically enough, the Chancellor's Manor isn't a house of judgement. Since I asked you a direct question, your superiors can't punish you for making a little chit chat. In fact, even though I'm a bit of an introvert, I would prefer a bit of discussion. So, please, go ahead if you wish". He casually took a left at a fork, taking the longer path to extend discussion.
"Well, hmm. I've always liked the Ketali plant. It's not the biggest, or the most flashy, but it has a shade of Green that you rarely see in flowers. I grew up helping my parents in our garden, and we had a small Ketali patch. They also attract butterflies, which is pretty awesome."
The Chancellor smiled and nodded. "An unusual choice, but I can see that. An unusual flower to come across, especially in cities. They like flat plains. My mother made sure my siblings and I remembered our plants, and we helped her in the garden on cool Saturdays". He ran his hand over a nearby bush, hand grazing the soft flowers reaching for sunlight. "It's an almost ingrained habit now, smelling flowers. It reminds me of easier times, when I was young and-".
He was cut off by a gunshot echoing across the yard, and a projectile cutting through the bushes three feet in front of him. He froze up, his old battle instincts kicking in. He was quickly pushed off the path and into the flowers by the guard next to him, and was swarmed by two additional guards escorting him off the path and through the flowers. Solar Guards were pouring out of all corners of the yard and Manor, making sure that the Chancellor has a safe path inside and figuring out where the shots came from.
Will was out of breath by the time he got inside and sat down in the foyer(away from windows, at his guard's request). Jake was sitting next to him, as shaken as he was, with his heavily muscled arm over Will's shoulder. "Holy Shit". He muttered. "What is it with you and getting shot at?".
Despite the situation, Will laughed quietly. "No clue. Trust me, if I knew, I wouldn't be in this mess". The couple sat there for a moment, silently trying to calm themselves. "Well, you said you wanted a nice relaxing evening, and there's no way in hell the guards are going to let us even look outside, so how about we stay in bed and watch a movie while we're on lockdown?".
Will smiled. "I'd like that".
Borean, Suburban Geminus
3:14 PM, July 13th
Brian Smith yawned and stretched out on his couch, sipping coffee from a worn down mug that he had used for years. His wife constantly asked him to replace it, but it had grown on him. He couldn't get rid of it. He had just woken up, and was waiting for his wife to get home from her Elementary School Teaching job. Ever since he had gotten his Night Class teaching job, the main times they could see each other were in the mornings and afternoons, when one comes home and the other wakes up.
It was a sunny, yet decently cool afternoon, and Brian Smith sat down on the steps of his townhouse, enjoying the cool breeze. He lived on a semi-busy street, the best he could find this close to Geminus. Decent real estate went quickly in Geminus, and you have to get lucky to find a place you like. He was also lucky to get decent neighbors. Overall, he was happy to watch the cars drive by as he relaxes.
One of the cars came to a stop in the middle of the road, earning Smith's curiosity. A hooded figure got out of the passenger side, holding something he couldn't quite see. He cautiously stood, grabbing his mug and his phone. But the figure wasn't after him. They threw what they were holding through one of the neighboring houses' windows, then ran back to the car and sped off. He stood there, shocked, and saw smoke coming from the broken window. His mind started racing. That's Richard's house, the Minister of Defence. Who would do such a thing? He picked up his phone and dialed 096. This makes my day a bit more interesting.
Hart and Sons Suit Store, Uptown Geminus
3:23 PM, July 13th
Alexander Dukov sat in the showroom of the suit store, a bag containing a fresh new suit on the ground next to him. It was about time his wardrobe of suits got an upgrade, and Hart and Sons, the store he had frequented for years, was holding a nice sale. How could he refuse?
Edgar Hart, the older Gentleman who owned the store, stood at the cash register with his fabric tape measure slung over his shoulder. "Okay, thanks for your Business, sir. As usual". He gave Dukov his card back as well as his receipt. "Thanks, Edgar. I'll be back!". He smiled and left, whistling as he walked down the street. Greystone Boulevard was the heart of the Uptown Upscale Business District, holding Art Galleries, China and Jewelry Shops, and Fancy Boutiques, and Dukov shopped here decently often.
He peeked through the shop windows as he strolled down, stopping when he came to a jewelry shop. On display was a gorgeous Silver and Amethyst Necklace, one that his wife would certainly adore. After all, their anniversary was fast approaching, and he didn't have anything to get her yet. He stepped in the shop, looking around as the busy attendant took another customer to look at rings. The shop was decently small, with rows of cases and a cashier right at the front. He scrolled through the cases, checking to see if he saw anything he liked better than the Necklace on display.
The employee managing the floor came over. "Looking for anything in particular, sir?".
He nodded. "Yes, actually." He pointed to the display in the window. "Is there a possibility I could take a closer look at that Amethyst Necklace in the window display please?".
"Of course!". She went over and unlocked the case, gingerly pulling out the selected necklace and handing it to Dukov. He looked it over, admiring the light weight and discreet chain. She will love this! "I'll take it!'.
"Excellent Choice Sir, you can head right over to my associate at the counter, he'll get you checked out". She walked over to the next patron who just stepped through the door and started showing them around the place as Dukov headed for the counter. As he passed the new patron, he felt a stabbing pain in his side, right above his hip. The patron ran outside and down the Boulevard as Dukov stumbled and fell to the ground.
Both the Cashier and Saleswoman ran over to help him. The cashier brought out his phone and called for an ambulance as the Saleswoman found a paper towel to try to stem the blood slowly pooling from a deep gash in his side. The Ambulance took a few minutes to get there, while Dukov lay on the floor in agony, still clutching the necklace he had chosen for his wife.
