GAME WEEK 5 RESULTS
[floatright]IDUFC SEMI FINALS[/floatright]Eiria vs Gnejs
The Gnejsians managed to defeat the famed Argonauts in a tense 1-2 encounter at the King Rumius I Arena, managing to secure their position in the IDUFC Grand Final. The game got off to a very close start, with both teams seemingly evenly matched, especially at the center of the park. An effort from Jack Wiijk from close range was parried away in the 17th minute, to the glee of the Eirian Fans. The Eirians struggled to go onto the attack, with their attackers being seemingly outmatched by the Dandelion Defense.
The Second half saw both teams initiate more attacking chances. In the 51st minute the Eirians managed to get a free-kick in a dangerous position. A placed shot from Luc De Leroy however, was unable to worry the keeper as it sailed into the stands. The two teams picked up the tempo and the deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute with a beautiful series of one-two passes from Luc De Leroy and Tyler Frenya-Sulet culminating in the ball being slotted home by De Leroy. The Dandelions, undeterred, equalized only ten minutes later, with Nicolai Lennartson rifling in a driven shot from just outside the 18 yard box.
Extra time began with both teams concentrating on avoiding conceding. The Eirians soon went on attack, with several attacking moves that unfortunately did not come to fruition. Heartbreak came in the 114th minute for the Eirians, who conceded a majestic goal which came about from a devastating Gnejsian counter attack. Gustaf Bjørneboe latched onto a lobbed pass, directed it onto his chest and into the air, only to volley it past the keeper who definitely had no chance. The rest of the game was a tense affair, with the Eirians resorting to do-or-die all out attacks.
Cape Auria vs Assamland
The Cape Aurians fell to another impressive Assamlandian performance in a 0-2 loss at the King William II Stadium. The Assamlandians, from kick off, dominated the game with a series of quick attacks which paid off in the 10th minute, with Martien Nijland slotting home from close range. They soon doubled their lead, with Nijland and Henk-jan van’t Oude combining in a spectacular run of play which allowed Sjaak Driessen to place a shot from just at the edge of the box. The rest of the half saw the Cape Aurians get pummeled by Assamlandians, but managing to hold back the goals.
The second half saw little action, with Assamland focusing on possession play at the dismay of the Cape Aurians. In the 86th minute a foul by Ian Smith managed to injure both Driessen and Daniel Moran, the Cape Aurian Keeper. Due to the Cape Aurians having already spent all three substitutions, Reese Sykan was forced to go in between the sticks and go against Nijland in a spot kick. He managed to parry the shot from the target man, to the admiration of everyone in the arena. The game ended with both teams settling down and going for defensive play.
