"Volunteer" act passes easily in Assembly
In response to a recent statement from the unrecognized Xiomeran Emperor, Xochiuhue, warning other nations not to send 'volunteers' to Xiomera, the Representative Assembly easily passed a measure authorizing Milinticans to do just that.
The measure, the Fighting Usurpers in Xiomera for Our Complete Halt to Imperialism Act (or FU XOCHI Act), passed with the first unanimous vote in the history of the Assembly. One representative from Wairarapa, Himi Ngata (GPM), even appeared in the Assembly Chamber to cast his vote despite having a severe case of food poisoning. "130 Milinticans just told the tyrants of the world that we do not answer to them, and for that, I am extremely proud," Ngata said before immediately leaving to return home.
The measure, while not officially committing Milintica to any military action, does authorize Milintican citizens to "follow their conscience" in relation to the coup in Xiomera. It also allows both Milintican citizens and foreign nationals to form "resistance" groups for the benefit of the Xiomeran people, as well as raising funds and acquiring "needed supplies". In addition, it authorizes asylum for any Xiomeran national seeking to escape the country due to the coup there.
The measure formalizes what had been, up to now, an unofficial agreement by the Democratic Republic to allow the country to serve as a base for formal organizing against the coup regime in Xiomera.
VOP to begin providing coverage to Xiomeran exile government
In a related story, the Voice of the People, Milintica's official news source, has reached an agreement with the Xiomeran government in exile to begin carrying news stories, updates and bulletins about the resistance to the Xiomeran coup. All VOP outlets, broadcast and online, will begin carrying coverage provided by the government in exile, as well as VOP's own coverage concerning the coup. This will be carried in a new segment as part of VOP News broadcasts at 8am, noon, 5pm and 10pm Milintican time.
The first broadcast, taking place today, shows video smuggled out of the city of Xochiatipan, the latest city in Xiomera to rebel against the rule of the usurper Emperor. The coverage shows that while the Xiomeran security forces were able to suppress the protest in that city, it was not without considerable effort. Nyree Moa reports: "Multiple Xiomeran law enforcement and military units, backed by paramilitary elements of the so-called 'citizens' groups' such as the Good Citizens' League, had to be used to break up the protests in Xochiatipan. While not as widespread or as violent as the infamous protests in August of 1977 in Xochiatipan, it was clear from the scene that this was no simple walk in the park for the Xiomeran authorities. Tear gas and rubber bullets were used extensively and without restraint, and baton charges as well. Despite all this, it took several hours for the authorities to get the city center completely back under control again."
Meanwhile, from his headquarters in Laeralsford, the defacto legitimate Xiomeran leader Crown Prince Texōccoatl addressed the violence in Xochiatipan, as well as recent statements made by the usurper Xochiuhue. Imantzitl reports: "The Crown Prince had this to say about the violence in Xochiatipan: 'It is clear that, in increasing numbers and in increasing volume, the people of Xiomera are demanding that the false Emperor step down, disband his illegitimate government, and restore the rightful authorities to power. The time for that to remain a voluntary choice on his part is rapidly running out.' Texōccoatl added that 'the people, and their voice, will not be ignored.'
The Crown Prince was also asked about the accusation made by the usurper Emperor that he was 'cowardly hiding in Laeral' with a simple statement of his own: 'Don't worry, Xochiuhue, you'll face me soon enough.' While the situation seems balanced against the exile government at the moment, the Crown Prince is clearly confident of victory in the long run."
And in the last part of the segment, Calxochitli reports that the denunciations of the Xiomeran usurper regime against 'foreign interference' in Xiomera aren't what they seem: "Several Xiomeran and international sources have analyzed video from Xiomeran operations in Necuatexi and Acalan, the sites of two harsh examples of the usurper regime suppressing local residents of the Necatli ethnic group. Multiple sources have confirmed to VOP that these scenes show Xiomeran security forces being assisted by foreign mercenaries, specifically the Shuellian mercenary group Watchtower. So, if the Emperor Xochiuhue is so opposed to foreign interference in his country, why is he hiring foreign mercenaries to suppress his own people? That's the question many are now asking."
